No doubt that your buddy thinks you’re an insufferable windbag

Man some of you guys need to pull your head out of your SEC or whatever graduate arses.
I agree with everything that is said for the most part. The food at chains is not fantastic, but most of it really isn’t nearly as bad as you guys act like.
I grew up fairly poor, both my parents were the first in their family to graduate college. We ate at a shite ton of chain restaurants growing up. I can’t remember the last time I have now to be honest, it’s been over 6 months maybe over a year.
But this is a SEC based forum of college educated and mostly successful people. We are well above the average income level. This somehow blows people’s minds, but there are hard working good people that are in the 20-60% income average level that just want to eat out an affordable meal occasionally.

Plenty of people dont want to have time to cook everyday so they have to eat at those kinds of places.

I’m guessing Houston’s doesn’t fall into this category? I’ve always enjoyed it, but saw they closed the one in Metairie.

You could get a great meal at a local family owned place, you could also get a horrible meal or a meal that put you in the ER.
My brother in law travels a fair amount for work and he always sticks with the chains for that very reason.
Like I said earlier - With the exception of rural/small towns, this is super dramatic on his part. Any decently populated area, even smaller cities... hell, even suburban outskirts of cities.. have plenty of non-chains that aren't going to be inedible or send you to the ER. People aren't just getting sick all over the place from non-chain restaurants
I understand if we're talking about some podunk town in rural Georgia or a shack on the Mexican border (although I'd still happily eat at the latter), but locally owned restaurants in normal civilized areas are plenty consistent enough.

Average to shitty sit-down chains like O'Charley's, Applebee's, TGI Friday's, Ruby Tuesday's, Chili's, etc... How are they still in business? They offer nothing as far as quality or price point.
Applebees and O'Charley's have re-branded maybe 3 or 4 times within the past decade with minimal success.
Ruby Tuesday's is plain awful.
Chili's is okay but why would I go there above a locally owned or specialty restaurant that could make better food at the same price?
Any time I pass by one of these places they're always completely empty. Are baby boomers keeping them open
Your level of narcism and sense over-inflated self importance is astounding. You’ve become so self absorbed and self centered you cannot fathom how it’s possible there are people who have different opinions and tastes than yourself. I pity you. The best thing you could do is go to your parents and slap the shite out of them for allowing you to become the way you are.
And for the record, I don’t give a shite one way or the other about any chain restaurant. If I’m out and I’m hungry, I’ll grab a bite to eat. If other people want it do the same, fine. If they don’t, who fricking cares?

Oh for sure. Chains have their place. But they are on the decline according to articles that have been posted here in the past year, and it makes sense. Even smaller cities are getting more and more locally owned restaurants because food has become pretty popular.
Your prime time channels have cooking contest shows, and Food Network has turned into this major thing everyone watches vs. something housewives watch to get recipes.
I totally understand the factors that go into why these people may not be aware of better options out there (advertising, etc.). but being locally owned doesn't make something automatically more expensive. Especially in the South. It isn't uncommon to find a local casual joint with massive plates of food for $10 (same price as these chains).

Baby boomers aren’t the problem here. It’s the hot pocket generation. They have shite for palates, and just don’t know any better or value food.

That said, I can't really relate to your statement I quoted. Unless you travel to rural areas with no other options, why would the highly rated local restaurants not be dependable? I'm not always in the main city like L.A. or San Diego, but even in suburban areas an hour out, there's plenty of local stuff that is far from not being dependable
I do travel to very small towns. I work with schools and towns. A lot of times there aren’t even reviews for some places. There’s not a lot of options in Eagle Pass, Carizo Springs, Rio Grande City, Beeville, Royse City, or Del Rio if you’re wanting better fare than McDonalds
And to be honest, I’ve gone into some locations on the border and felt unwelcome so I go with what’s safe. 9/10 i try something new.

Bunch of judgmental assholes. Makes me want to eat at chain restaurants more often.
Posted on 6/25/19 at 10:11 pm to VolsOut4Harambe
If you don’t like them why are you so worried about them. Sounds like you know a lot about each an every one of them.
They’re in business because of people like you.
