How are murders still unsolved in this day and age?

Eta: the original post I meant.

There is a case from Concordia Parish about a guy that was tortured and killed. Evidence all over the crime scene and there is an obvious suspect but charges weren't filled because of lack of evidence.

I know its a small parish sheriff department but if they can't handle it, wouldn't another department like state police or FBI step in?

DNA technology is pretty amazing but most police departments don’t have all the cool shite. You put a body in the woods somewhere and all evidence is gone in a couple of days down here.

It isn’t hard to get away with murder

If I wanted to I could kill anyone on here and get away with it.

Because life isn't a TV show and you don't always have the clues laid out for you.

But on this topic, I'm amazed at why more cold cases from old times aren't taken a look back at. I watch shows like forensic files a lot, and I can't count the number of times a crime from way back when went cold and unsolved because DNA evidence didn't exist at the time. Then some intern or new recruit with a lot of vigor will come in and pick up the old evidence box and run an old evidence item for DNA and whaddaya know the killer is right there on the computer screen. Granted this is an extremely simplified version, but why aren't there departments whose sole job it is to run old evidence from unsolved cases (prior to DNA testing) and get DNA from them now? Granted it'd be a massive undertaking and a lot of manhours but I mean why isn't this being done?

If I was a parent and my child was killed in the 60s or 70s and it was unsolved today, I'd be sick thinking that the killer's DNA is right there on a piece of evidence that's been sitting in the local precint's storage locker for 30 years.

And it's only as good as the comparison samples.

One day!

But...people don't want to talk. People that commit the crimes don't talk, so nothing to go on there. Witnesses aren't always great, and human memory is not infallible. If it is completely random, where do you start? Many in the public have the belief that DNA means everything in a case.

And, thankfully, we do not yet live in a country where Big Brother is always watching.

Because while physical evidence is important, it is not as important as eyewitnesses. Unfortunately, in the areas where the majority of the murders take place, eyewitnesses suddenly Go mute. Cause, you know, they don't want to help the man.

It would be a pretty easy case to close when all of the posters disappeared and you were still on here commenting on your own threads

1. cost
2. man hours
3. current case load
4. degraded samples
5. no comparison DNA

Cost is probably the most prohibitive factor
