I enjoy the country life, but North Louisiana offers nothing. It's not scenic, the weather is terrible, and hunting & fishing leave a lot to be desired. I'd rather live in Arkansas or even north Alabama over north Louisiana.

I've been to Houston recently and really didn't mind it. Just don't know how it would be as far as living there.

Houston and NO are basically the same distance from my family. North LA just seems like it'd be a much lower cost of living. I don't "Hunt N Feesh" so I could see myself not fitting in up there.

New Orleans

North LA is boring and full of protestants
Houston is a goddamn pain in the arse.
New Orleans is a ton of fun, though expensive and dangerous with 3rd world infrastructure
Baton Rouge has the worst parts of all of those places with virtually none of the benefits of any.

However, I live in Baton Rouge because of school and work. Tbh, Baton Rouge has come a long way in actually becoming a decent place to live, but it still has a long way to go. It needs a better rock music scene (getting there), better schools (never going to happen), and better traffic (also never going to happen). At least its bar and restaurant scene has improved tremendously over the last decade.

Your two choices are Houston and New Orleans.

Baton Rouge is a fricking dumpster fire. It should be thankful it has LSU because other than that it has nothing. So unless you're 18-22, don't live there. I loved living there in college but it is a disaster otherwise.

North Louisiana isn't as bad as the "above I10 isn't Louisiana" crowd says it is. But it still sucks. Honestly I'd rank it ahead of Baton Rouge. But really they're reversible in this list

For me:
1Houston
2NOLA
3/4 North LA/Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge

I'd never live in northern Louisiana.

ETA: I guess income would also come into play. As well as how many kids you have. If you're middle class with 3 kids, I wouldn't suggest New Orleans as my first option.

NOLA

Although I do love Texas, I agree with the sentiment that "The worst part of Texas is Texans" and New Orleanians basically took that statement and said "Nope, I can do better!". I've never met a group of more ethnocentric people in my life.

There is no circumstance that would put North La at the top of this list.

Wouldn't live in North LA, and I doubt I'd live in BR either.

Houston, easily. Nicer roads, better services, better air travel options, more women, more stores, more restaurants, etc. That said, Houston is OK if you can deal with foreigners, concrete, and it's infamous humidity.

There are also advantages to northern Louisiana that I can appreciate. New Orleans is a destination only to me.

The humidity in Louisiana is no different than Houston. It may be worse in some cases. Either way...let's not act like Houston holds some monopoly on humidity.

Actually, I couldn't disagree more. While BR still has a long way to go, it has improved a great deal in the last 10 years. Crime and traffic are still a problem, but overall the city has a lot more to offer the post-college crowd than it used to. Kip Holden has been good for BR. Hopefully his successor will continue moving the city in the right direction.

South Louisiana humidity is worse than Houston somehow.
