quote:

For the first time ever, a congressional committee has approved a piece of legislation to end marijuana prohibition in the United States. The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement Act, better known as The MORE Act, would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act and impose a minor excise tax on the legal cannabis industry to pay for the expungement of criminal records, among other changes, passed with a bipartisan vote of 24 to 10.

quote:

Now that Chairman Nadler has moved the MORE Act through committee, it is time for the full House to vote and have every member of Congress show their constituents which side of history they stand on.”

this should pass thru the house. regardless of whether the senate even lets it out of committe (they likely won't), it's progress

Hopefully it makes it all the way to Trump. He would likely sign it.

I’m surprised the Democrats would even consider the possibility of giving Trump a win like that.

They must be confident in the Republicans shooting it down.

Big pharma has their clutches in both parties, you’ll see resistance in both chambers.

Sometimes, things are about what’s best for the people. The rest of the time, it’s partisan or in favor of big companies making money.

It's this. No politician ever, ever does anything unless they think their is an angle to gain something from it. Hell, that's probably why they wanted the job in the first place.

It almost doesn't matter.

Louisiana will keep it illegal for at least the next decade, probably longer.

They know the Senate will shut this down. It will be another "look what we tried to do, but the Republicans shut it down" type of thing.

whatever gets it done eventually is fine by me.

by the way:

-both AK senators are R
-one CO senator is R
-one ME senator is R, the other is I

the remaining legal states are all D, but the number of legal states goes up almost annually now. if the bill can just get out of committee, it could have a chance and i have no doubt trump would sign it

Or Republicans could do the smart thing by claiming the win for Trump instead of letting it die in the Senate by their hands.

And the Republicans could NOT be hypocrites and let it be a State's Rights issue. As it should be.

Which part of removing Marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act would violate States' Rights?

A guy I know, recruiting me for a medical grow, ran trump's primary in an unnamed southern state. Dude swears up and down this is fact... yet I witnessed them hammer kid in ohio for legal gun purchases because of the cannabis clause on form 4473, question 11e. I remain skeptical at best.
