You’re right. EV owners should just bring a bunch of electricity cans to the charging station to fill those before the storm…just in case.

They ONLY charge if electricity is flowing to the outlet. Those big transmission towers have a proven vulnerability.

Kork, I read your posts on the Tech board so I know you are a highly intelligent individual.
While I appreciate your defense of EV, you and I both know that the current battery technology has significant limitations compared to gas engines, namely range and charging time.
Here are some relevant articles that cite these factors of which I am sure you are aware:

EV charging times
So first, EV have roughly half the range of comparable gas engine vehicles. And second, it takes just a few minutes to fill up a gas tank with addition gas cans to extend gas engine range. Meanwhile you are waiting many hours on the side of the road charging your EV with a gas powered generator; not that's some irony. :)
For example, we have an old 2003 Chevy Cavalier that we bought from my elderly mother-in-law for 2000 bucks. It only has a 10 gallon gas tank but it still gets about 25 miles per gallon highway miles so it has a range of about 250 miles. We can easily carry four 5 gallon gas cans in the truck which extends the range to about 750 miles.
Now do a similar comparison with your current EV.....

Personally know of several homes in the Houma area where Ida ripped them from the roof and then this allowed massive water damage into the home. I would not bet on your solar panels surviving a major hurricane intact.

And here's the bottom line, there are only 2 options before/during a storm: evac, or ride it out.
If you evac, pretty much any EV will have the range to get you out of harm's way on one charge. Every time there's a storm or other natural disaster (fires in cali) that knocks out power some folks get all excited hoping to see EVs stranding people all over the place. It's pretty sad to see people hope for that, but funny when they ignore their blue balls and wait for the next time.
If you ride it out, then IMO an EV is actually a more versatile and useful tool in the aftermath of a storm (for the average person, not for rescue crews you dumbass OP).
Are EVs the perfect vehicle in all scenarios? Absolutely not. But they damn sure aren't useless like some think they are.
