Wait we keep changing things. I thought the average marriage is now 33 according to previous post. But we need to make sure we have the best schools right off the bat. And we can’t have a commute. Ok. What other way things can we not compromise on? Make sure your list is comprehensive.
In metro Atlanta 400k will get you a solid house. Dual income at 170k saving the first ten years of their career should give them 20-30% down payment, manageable note, and not be house poor.
Let’s just go ahead and call a spade a spade. Everyone in here bitching doesn’t want to make compromises.
My first house at 28 was a 1280 sq ft 80 year old shite box in NOLA where my shite was stolen out of the trunk of my car.
Now our household income is over 500k a year and we have a million dollar house. But we grinded for 30 fricking years to get there.

They are called business districts.
And it hasn't really changed. In a metropolitan area like Atlanta, there are just more business districts outward along the highways.

It was a good thing. It taught me how to fix a house. It taught me to be handy. It taught me fiscal responsibility. It taught me to live within my means. It also gave me the drive to improve my station in life.

Don’t be so dense. 90 minute commute my arse. There are plenty of hospitals and business parks in the suburbs. My wife and I are both professionals and live OTP in Atlanta. Neither of us work ITP.

So you are changing the definition of a starter home to make it fit your narrative? That proves the entire point of this thread. It is now more difficult to get the equivalent of what you could get 20 years ago.
