Yep, this 100%.
It must be like a penis measuring contest for grumpy boomers/gen Xers to admit which generation had it harder.
Broadly speaking, Gen Z has it much more difficult than millennials did buying their first home. I feel for them. Prices haven’t really gone down and neither have interest rates. Homeowners insurance and property taxes seem to only be going in one direction as well — up.

There’s a simple point to this thread. It’s currently more difficult for first time home owners to buy a house than it was in the past. I don’t know why so many people can’t grasp that. The house that I grew up in was a 1,300 sf, 3 bed/2 bath in a safe neighborhood with a golf course. My family is by no means rich. My parents monthly mortgage was under $1k.

Glad we bought our house in 2016 for $129K(short sale) and a 3.25% interest rate.
Prices are just grossly ostentatious at this point.

The post I replied to was referencing raising kids in a smaller home and them sharing bedrooms. Did you do that when you were raising your children or only they should?

Because the average age of marriage is 32. I got married at 23. Bought my first house at 30. So that age tracks. Kids are finishing school, traveling, spending money like it’s water, and then settling down later. That’s great. But don’t bitch about being robbed of the American dream.

Oh I grasp it alright. Sure it’s more difficult because they want to start in a 2500 sq foot home. 4 bed, 2.5 bath, pool, boat port, etc etc etc.
