I don't even know why any white guy would try to go into acting in today's world. The pre-established stars are juiced in but newcomers have to pay their dues on the stage, in commercials and taking bit parts and modern entertainment has made it pretty clear that "messaging" is more important than any other qualification or virtue upon which entertainment was traditionally judged.

Entertainment.

Don’t watch it. Read a book instead.

I mostly don’t care about fictional characters.

Usually only when it’s nonsensical or there’s a clear description in the books (Ariel for instance) and they go way off base does it get an eyeroll from me.

A lot of the shows just cast minorities in historical fiction (Bridgerton) and ignore race all together and that’s mostly fine.

Dumb things for me are Anne Boleyn or Vikings being black.

Argument could be made that white was the only color used for characters back in the day. Whatever.

And Dave Chappelle played one of the merry men of Sherwood Forest in men in tights. And that movie sucked.

I agree.
And I would include historical characters if the actor/actress nails the role. Who cares.

The AI depictions of Jewish holocaust survivors and European royalty is the line.
Entertainment? I will judge it on quality.
Claiming educational? No. shite no.

I can live with James Earl Jones being Mark Hamil's father.
I can't comprehend Napoleon as a gay trans via AI.

I have no problem with fictional works if race is completely ignored. Bridgerton, for instance, I had heard of the show, but I had never heard a mutter about the race of the actors playing characters, and it really wasn't addressed in the show. Does it historically make sense? Not especially, but it really seemed as if they just cast everyone completely disregarding race, in almost all cases. If someone would have cast one of the daughters as a black girl, it would have taken away from the show, thus they are all white like the parents.

The little mermaid, snow white, Disney did that solely for diversity, especially in the case of Snow White, she was snow white because of the color of her skin, so it makes 0 sense. I won't watch those.

Historical stories should follow race, and honestly if it went both ways, it would still bother me, it takes away from the film.

Looks aside it's a fricking fictional story. People getting pissy about that is misplaced outrage.

I'm just waiting for a remake of Black Panther staring Kevin Costner and Nicole Kidman.

Is this stuff shitty? Yes. On the other hand, if you financed a film you can cast who you want. It is up to the market to correct it by saying we aren't paying to watch that shite
