ou’re supposed to bike with traffic and walk against traffic. That’s like day 1 of road safety.

If the driver was stone cold sober, and would have stopped, then the facts of the conditions and the walking in the wrong side of the road may have exonerated him.
If the driver was unquestionably impaired, then he’d justifiably be made an example of, and the conditions would have been ignored like George Floyd’s rap sheet.
But if the driver had one or two beers, and a BAC that registered well below the limit, he’d have still been worked over by the legal system. That doesn’t begin to justify leaving the scene with an injured person, but if a driver with a 0.00 BAC could be innocent under these conditions, then a driver with a 0.03 should also be innocent.
I’m not defending the driver, or the decisions he may have made before and after the incident. But I am saying that the legal climate surrounding this type of case creates a dilemma that can lead to terrible split-second decisions at the time of the incident that may have contributed to this young woman’s death.

Ram 2500 or 3500, the mirror can fold in towards the cab or out and straight up. I’ve never seen that mirror on a 1/2 ton truck before.

Ram 1500's can be equipped with these mirrors from the factory. Therefore, a RAM 1500 should not be ruled out based on mirrors alone. The below pic is linked directly from RAM's website.

what was she doing walking on the highway there? it looks like an industrial complex part of town. it isnt like she walked out of a bar down the street.

Anything but industrial. If anything, it borders a generally rural area. 2 lanes, no shoulder at all. Such a sad story. Just a few years back there was a high schooler that got hit on his bike further down Jefferson in pville by Sammy's.

Point being, that road isn't meant for walking or biking.

Prayers to their family. Tragic story.

Takes a strong man to do an interview like that.

Can't agree more. I actually don't know Leah but my wife worked with her years ago when they both worked at Chimes East.

All I can say is her family, represented in this thread and in that video, are very impressive and you know, in a way, that's the best way they have to honor the memory of her.

I'm rooting for them every step of the way.

Wow, that is a tough video to watch. That poor father and mother. Such an awful tragedy

That interview took a lot class. It takes a special man to be able to give that interview. Condolences to all of you.

My apologies, I didn’t word my post correctly.

I know its available as an option but in my 31 years of being in the truck accessory business, I’ve never seen a half ton Ram/Dodge truck with tow mirrors on it.

This is my cousin, we are heartbroken. Thank you for posting.
My heart breaks for and I pray for the person who hit her as well

I knew her pretty well from the CJ's crowd.
Really terrible.

Can someone smarter than me tell me what a fog line is?

The “fog line” refers to the bright white line painted on the edge of the roadway that separates the legally drivable portion of the road from the un-drivable portion.

I can remember my dad telling me stories of commuting to work over Lake Pontchatrain and having to hang his head outside open driver side door so he could see road lines on bridge bc fog so bad.

Can you please ask your friend if they recall what time they heard the accident and anything else about the timeline (when first responders arrived)?

Our family would appreciate any information to understand what happened that night.

Thank you!
Leah’s cousin

Investigators say they believe Leah was struck by a 2018-2020 Dodge Ram 2500 or 3500 model. The vehicle's passenger side mirror was ripped off and left behind at the scene.

Anyone have a friend or coworker that has a newish Dodge Ram truck that all of a sudden needs a ride to work?

Any of y’all work at a parts place or a body shop and someone called about a new side mirror for their Dodge truck?!

Anyone have a neighbor that has a truck parked differently than usual?

Anyone on Jefferson Hwy have cameras that might have seen something?

Anyone called in sick on Monday and has been acting weird since they got back to work?

Someone has to know something.

Im sure the person who did this, had got to be sweating. They are definitely closing in. This poor family to show remorse for the defendant is nothing short of admirable.

I mean if the guy has a lick of sense, he kept driving 5 states over to get that mirror fixed...

when that gay dude mowed down a homeless guy a few years back, I think he tried bringing his car to a local body shop and got caught.

not that I hope he doesn't turn himself in but doesn't sound like this guy is going that route unless maybe he's lawyering up right now before doing so.
