I lived near Highland Road from the mid-70s until late 90s and my family still does. I have never had an issue with people going too slowly. Quite the opposite. We were rear ended on it as a kid. Had a beer bottle thrown at me by an idiot speeder with road rage. And numerous other insane incidents.

People going 35 on the curvy parts does not concern me.

From I-10 to the south gates of LSU Highland Road is one of the nicest drives in Baton Rouge. Maybe people are just enjoying the drive.

Slow drivers don't bother me but don't pull out in front of me causing me to have to hit my brakes when you know you aren't going to get up to speed fast and then putt putt along.

This is how we know the OT is old. People in support of driving ten miles below the limit. Sad.

why can’t you just pass them and then drive the limit yourself?

So you’ve never driven on Highland Road

Really? Link?

Traffic impediment. There are multiple statues that cover this in nearly every state.
quote:

A new bill, Senate Bill 11, has been proposed to address traffic impediments in the left lane. This bill removes the previous requirement that a driver must be traveling at least 10 mph below the speed limit to be ticketed for obstructing traffic. Under the new law, drivers can be cited for simply driving in the left lane and impeding the flow of traffic, even if they are going the speed limit.

With all due respect, (I know Highland is 2 lanes) anxious people that need to do 10 under the speed limit to "feel" safe simply don't know how to drive.

I have a new driver and I’m scared to death of him pulling out onto highland from our hood. In the early mornings, people are going 60 mph+ down highland and it’s hard to gauge how fast people are going especially for an inexperienced driver. frick all you maniacs.

People don’t go the speed limit or a respectable speed anywhere.

It’s even worse in Texas

Tell him to watch for the oncoming vehicle tires crossing the center line. I constantly have to lay on the horn as people approach me as I can see them drifting over. I can see how people glance at their phones on the interstate as it’s usually pretty straight. But on a curvy 2 lane road like Highland with oncoming traffic? Put the phone down.

Put forward and read facing cameras on all your vehicles. You think these assholes won’t lie as to what happened?

Can’t imagine being so upset about this it needed a thread. Where do you have to be that arriving 5 minutes earlier is a game changer and materially affects your day?

I can’t imagine being so bad a driving that I have to drive 10 mph below the speed limit. I think I’d give up my license at that point.

What part of Highland Road? The one past Siegen heading toward I-10 has lots of curves with blind spots and at night can be a bit challenging if you don't drive it much.

I’m surprised how many people are disagreeing with you OP. Speed limits are made assuming that the majority of drivers will be traveling at that speed. If there’s a spot in the road where they believe you need to slow down, there’s usually a “35 around curve” sign posted. I bet the vast majority of traffic engineers would tell you that there is almost no reason to go 10 mph under the posted speed limit barring unusual circumstances.

Kinda surprised too Obviously it’s a winding road you’re not flooring it on, but I do tend to get stuck behind people going 30 pretty regularly.

Maybe don't drive at night then gramps.

If you're going 35mph on highland and i'm behind you, there's a good chance i'm going to occasionally get pretty damn close to you.
Learn how to drive and stop being an inconsiderate pussy.
Hell i don't care if you're going 40, i'd probably stay a safe distance away at that speed, but 35 and below, and i've been behind morons going slower than 35, I'm going to be on your arse. I'm not the inconsiderate jerk in this situation, you are. We all drive with expectations of other drivers to follow the rules of the road. Y'all can spout your bullshite about it being a speed "limit" but everyone knows when the speed limit is 45, it means go 45 or slightly faster. It doesn't mean go 25-35. When you're going 10+ mph below the speed limit, you're the inconsiderate jerk. Idiots do this on Jefferson Hwy all the time and don't realize that if they'd actually go the speed limit they wouldn't get caught at every fricking red light on that street.

You idiots going 10mph below the speed limit are the reason we have such terrible traffic, and you're too stupid to comprehend that.

Drivers on Hwy 30 are the worst. 55 Speed limit, perfectly straight road & they go 45
In some parts. Hwy 30 is under construction in Iberville parish and the posted speed limit is indeed 45. Up to you if you want to challenge Saint Gabriel PD.

But I’m the bad person bc I can drive 45 on a road with turns and you can’t? But you choose to go that road u stead of Burbank or Perkins on whatever road parallel to highland?

By that logic, why wouldn’t you drive down Burbank where the speed limit is 55 for much of the way?

That said, I think many folks just don’t realize they’re driving in a 45 mph zone. I agree it’s a little annoying at times but it’s a weird thing to melt about.
