High mileage commuters chime in please

I am looking to purchase a vehicle that will be exclusively used for a long daily commute of 140 miles/day. It is 98% interstate hwy driving.
My yearly mileage calculations project approx. 35K miles/year for 2 years then hopefully something more palatable. Worst case is 4 years of driving 140mi/day
I'm torn between purchasing a new car vs used car (sub 50K miles)
Total budget will not exceed $25K as I don't want to depreciate a higher value car with the insane miles we will put on it.
experienced high mile commuters, what are your recommendations?
I want a vehicle that I do not have to pour a lot of $ into besides regular maintenance.
Some of the cars we are considering are:
NEW Civic/Corolla/Sonata
USED Ford Fusion hybrid
USED Toyota Camry hybrid
USED Lexus 300h
USED Chrysler 300 (31mpg hwy on a smooth 8-speed tran) and is a comfortable ride
I'd like to know what your experiences have been with cars and what I should prioritize besides MPG
I generally buy a used car and hold on to it for at least 6 years. Putting 120K additional miles on a car that already has 50K is why I'm hesitant on buying used this time.

Get a Honda. I average 1500/1700 every 2 weeks, I have an Accord. Really no issues, as long as the maintenance is regularly maintained.

I'd go with a civic/corolla if possible.
My dad just put 200k miles on his Corolla and is still going. They last forever so long long as you maintain them.

Don't buy a used Camry, they are pieces of shite.
We have one now, it drives good but breaks down frequently
I'd get a Honda

While researching, I was surprised at how much I liked the Sonata. Hyundai's quality has dramatically improved through the years as well.

No hybrid and consider crossover SUV's. After making several long distance drives I won't even consider a compact car for such duty when larger, more comfortable vehicles are available that still get north of 30mpg hwy. I'd much rather have something like an Edge.

Try like hell to get adaptive cruise control. I've put 48k miles on a Mazda 3 in the last 20 months, and I've got no complaints. I average 30.8 MPG total since owning it. Nice little car too IMO.
Make and model is important, but if you're going to be on the interstate all the time, I love my adaptive cruise control. I've got it on both vehicles and use it all the time.

I put 100 miles a day on a Chevy 2500HD that gets 10mpg

I have had the opposite experience. Bought an '08 Camry with 50k miles on it in 2011. I averaged 135 miles a day for 4 years. Still drive it now at 212k miles. Never had any problems outside of new tires, brakes, and had to change out a belt that had worn. Maybe $2,000 of work has been put into it in 5 years.

This guy gets it. I once too faced the situation you are in and, without thinking too hard, ran out and bought a high MPG and cheap vehicle that had good maintenance ratings. I didn't spend five minutes thinking about how rough that piece of crap tin box rode or how bad the seats sucked. I spent HOURS thinking about how stupid I was over the next year. Get something that is COMFORTABLE to sit in for hours and has great road manners (handling, ride, noise level, decent stereo, etc).

I did this in an F150 FX2 and a Mustang GT, and occasionally in a Prius or on a Yamaha R6. The truck was way more comfortable than the others.
For your budget, I'd look at the Accord Sport or Camry XSE with the 4 cylinder. And I'd go new to have the full balance of warranty and peace of mind that it has been 100% well maintained and has new consumable parts (tires, brake pads, etc.)

Your experience is the exception, not the norm. A Camry is a good car.

You got someone's lemon. Camrys are some of the most reliable cars on the road.

My pops 2012 Sierra he uses for work has almost 180k on it, he justifies it by saying parts are so plentiful; and repairs are cheap and easy as hell for him to do himself on it. So its not THAT idiotic

I'm at 70k on my cAmry hybrid which is 1.5 years old. I've had two before this one and am getting another (via my company) in a few weeks. Best car ever.

Do NOT buy a Chrysler.
Toyota Camry would be my pick. Comfort, reliability and economy. Corolla is better economy but, comfort may become a problem.
