It's incredibly difficult finding a car with Adaptive Cruise Control. Most of the popular car sites don't even have it as a search option. Figuring out which manufacturer "package" includes AAC is a mofo
I have a wiki on AAC that lists the make/models but it still sucks
The wife seems stuck on a 1 yr old Hyundai Tuscan at the moment.

Honda Civic and drive it until the wheels fall off.

...bleh.
No korean yet.
No v6 hondas.
No nissans unless you will trouble shoot your own electrical gremlins later.
No domestics if you are going to run it past 150k.
If you want minimal maintenance, ignore things with a timing belt.
I am always willing to buy cheap, do 1k worth of maintenance, and then run it until I get bored with it.

I drove a Chevy Impala 130 miles every day for 2 years with 90% interstate (Laf to BR). Several things stand out to me when thinking back:
Comfort is a must, even at the (slight) sake of MPG. While at one point, I was spending $500+ a month on gas ($3.75/gal), the commute would have been truly unbearable had I been driving a car that basic inside and uncomfortable seats. Prioritize suspension and ride above all.
Satellite Radio helps a ton if you don't have unlimited data to stream radio or podcasts.
Check your tires monthly. Turns out my ball joints were bad after discovering that the insides of my tires were worn to wires. 2K in repairs and new tires due to me not paying attention. Oh, and get a quality air filter.
My best recommendation for a car is to find a used that has a good history of preventative maintenance and fairly low mileage (sub 40K). As long as you take care of the car and keep the maintenance up (Oil every 2-ish months, cleaning intake and valves with treatment, etc), it should last you several years. Outside of the ball joint deal, I put almost 100K on my car in a little over 2 years with no major issues at all.

I would get something like this:

I know it sounds crazy but if you get the details right this car would be perfect. I commute an hour each way in an F-250 and would get something like this in a heartbeat if it weren't for street flooding being common in my neighborhood.
Priority 1: long hours=comfort/safety, you'll be spending a lot of time driving, get something that doesn't cause excess fatigue and has good safety features. You're already working/driving a lot no need to make yourself more tired driving a loud rough riding car for long hours. I like to listen to news, audio books and make phone calls but some days I just like to relax with a few tunes and decompress. Another plus is a free loaner when it gets serviced, if you drive a long distance every day using a dealer shuttle etc won't work.
Priority 2: economy, fuel mileage with the diesel will be 30+ on the interstate, maintenance is a little higher but can be managed by getting an extended warranty if you chose, personally I wouldn't be afraid to drive a well maintained merc for 200,000 highway miles without one.

I would only get a hybrid if you are in a lot of stop and go traffic.
I have a 2013 Fusion Hybrid and commute about 1,500 miles/month in mostly heavy stop and go traffic. I get 36.7 mpg. The Fusion can still run off of battery power at 85 mph (from the open road part of my commute).
eta: adaptive cruise control has been awesome. I will never own another car without it.

140 miles/day

If it's for your wife, get her a 1-2 yr old explorer. It has everything you're looking for (safety, hands-free, ACC) with "good enough" gas mileage. Plus, you sit higher than a car. The only downside to my commuter car is that I sit so low, I can't see what's 2 cars in front of me. Being able to spot trouble sooner is a big plus on the interstate.

Our company uses Nissan Versas. They get great MPG and are relatively cheap. I believe they run anywhere between $10,000-$12,000 new. I'm sure they're a good bit cheaper used. I've driven mine for 2 years with hardly any maintenance issues. I drive anywhere from 150-200 miles a day.

No shite. I love my 4x truck, but I'd much rather drive the wife's sports sedan.

I don't know what AAC is. Did you mean ACC (adaptive cruise control)?
I have the SE package with all the bells and whistles with the exception of hands free parking assist and forward driver assist.
I paid $34,000 for it brand new, but I also got it from some deal that ford and other automakers were offering for Soldiers returning from Afghanistan.
I am a truck guy but I absolutely love this car.
I have driven this car round trip from Phoenix, AZ to Tampa, FL, PHX to Baton Rouge and PHX to Northern California (several times) and have not ever had any problems.
The Ford Sync is amazing you can use voice control or push of a button on the steering wheel to call someone, change radio or satellite radio or music from your connected wireless device.
I am 6'1 220+ and can sit in the middle back seat comfortably.

Wtf is adaptive cruise control?
Posted on 3/22/16 at 5:30 pm to Tigeralum2008
I drive about 200 miles a day, M-F, and about 20-75 miles on the weekends.

It is a cruise control that radars the pace of traffic in front of you. You can set the speed for 80 mph and as you come up on a car that is only doing 65 your car will slow down to the pace of the vehicle in front of you without you having to touch the brakes. When the other vehicle is out of your way, your car will automatically resume the speed you set. I set mine for about 75-80 mph and followed cars only doing 65-70 for a couple of miles without having to even touch the break pedal. If everyone brakes it will slow down for you. If needed your car will beep at you to avoid collision and if you don't act on the warning it will take evasive action on its own to include hard braking.
eta: the downside is that it doesn't work at speeds under 20 mph. If there is heavy rain, where it is hard to see the road, it won't even let you engage the ACC, you would then have to switch to regular cruise

Most subaru's come with it. Also blind spot dectection, cross traffic alert, pre collison braking, etc.
