I like Tesla. However i would question the reliability and value on the used market, after years of use. Several car companies are wanting to go all electric within the next several years, and I think it's a very risky decision. Electric cars still fall a little short on practicality and possibly, safety.

SpaceX can consistently land a rocket. That's pretty fricking impressive to me.

My grandpa put one in orbit around the moon, almost 50 years ago. Didn't line his pockets in remotely the same manner either...

Model 3s have been leaving Tesla employees stranded.

So it's probably a good thing they haven't figured out how to mass produce them yet. They rushed it because General Motors beat them to the affordable long range EV market by a year.

People aren't big fans of the subsidies and you cannot take anything Musk says at face value. If it's going to take you 3 years to ramp up production, just admit it. Stop all the bullshite and people wouldn't be as critical.

Tesla basically skipped a lot of common car manufacturing processes like prototype tooling in order to keep the Model 3 price low.

They are currently facing issues sourcing battery components and the cars are having problems due to bad R&D. The article explains it in more depth

well when you're being bankrolled by US taxpayers, you can do all kinds of stupid shite. Hell, Tesla aint payign for it.

We are.

Elon sucks at Quality Control

JD Power Quality survey's are considered the most accurate and fair because they ask the customers about their experiences initially and over time.

In order to do this every OEM submits to JD Power their registration lists regularly except Tesla

The whole damn thing is smoke and mirrors and totally supported by other people's money. I hope they fail.

So many haters.

They’re trying to revolutionize the auto industry, give them a chance. They’re beautiful cars and every owner I’ve ever met loves the car.

LOL hope you don’t own a GM, Ford, or Chrysler product. Sure I’m leaving a few off that list too.

ETA: I understand Musk being a bit childish when it comes to admiting his shortcomings and that’s fine - he is a strange and egotistic guy. But to just bash the company for no reason other than government subsidies is shortsighted. Tesla and SpaceX are American born and grown companies that, as far as I know, employ Americans in America lol. Meanwhile, “American” auto manufacturers like GM, Ford, and Chrysler outsource manufacturing to Mexico and still take government subsidies...so what am I missing? What makes Tesla so evil? It’s a US company revolutionizing a global market, shouldn’t we be supportive of it?

I agree. But I'm a car guy, so l could never completely get on board with electric.

But I would wait a year or two to get a Model 3. Let them work out all their kinks in material, software and process then hop on board. At that point, I'm sure the car will be fantastic.

This. My best friend has the S and put the deposit for the 3 on day 1. I thought about doing the same but decided not to for the exact reasons you mentioned. I'm going to wait a couple of years at least before making the decision to buy one.

General Motors beat this nimble little start up to the affordable EV market.

Not impressed with Tesla or Elon Musk.

Fair enough, but do the fanboys make you say absurd things too like Tesla won't be around in a year?

Which is really not a well thought out take, wouldn't you agree?

People act like the government just magically gave Tesla these subsidies that no one else had access to. They were there for anyone to take, Musk took it. That's pretty f'ing smart, wouldn't you say? Or, exactly the opposite of what people are doing, bashing him for making the smart play. It doesn't add up logically.

I don't think there's any secret that Tesla runs kinda like Amazon, where employees are consistently overworked. Elon puts out these insane timelines that everyone knows or should know right away it won't be met, but it seems pretty obvious to me his goal isn't necessarily to meet said timeline but to get the product out as soon as humanly possible. Setting a 3 year timeline probably doesn't achieve that as quickly as setting a much quicker, even impossible to meet timeline.

Any particular reason you dodged my question with a question, or do you also think Tesla will not be around in a year?

This feels like one of those things where you aren't a fan of Tesla, you know 100% my statement was correct and you agree with it, but since you don't like Tesla you couldn't just say you agree, so you move the goalpost to the next thing you don't like about Tesla.

Meh, their tiny profit was 100% attributable to the federal tax credits they were awarded for making low emission vehicles.

They actually lost money on each car they sold and that continues to be true.
