So, once again, why is GM seemingly viewed favorably vs. Tesla here?
I don't view either one of them favorably so you'll need to ask someone else your question.

I'm fanboy because I decided against a Model 3 for some of these very reasons?

Man, you're on fire!!!!

I simply stated if you like Tesla, know the history of Tesla, and want a Model 3, you should expect delays. Please tell me which of those points you disagree with.

You're speaking on emotion and fanboy irrelevant stuff, I'm speaking on the reality of things. You're also speaking on the business side of a lot of things with TSLA, if you will. It is possible for someone to like and want a car and not give a shite about how the business of the car company is doing.

I tried, still waiting for member12 to answer that.

I’m fine with that. If peoples’ main gripe with Tesla is government help, then they should stay consistent on that in regards to other companies bailed out by the government. Just can’t believe some people don’t see the hypocrisy of chastising Tesla over a subsidy as they sit in the comfort of their Tahoe LTZ.

But I'm a car guy, so l could never completely get on board with electric.

That’s ridiculous. They make a car that does 0-60 in 3 seconds. They have entered the toughest business to get into and in less than 7 years, not only do they make a competitive product, they’ve taken market share from the big guys. Not Ford & GM: Porsche, Audi, MB, etc. That’s pretty amazing.

A real “car guy” can appreciate innovation. In my town there’s a CEO of an oil company who drives a Model S, which is great.

So would you say that Tesla taking federal tax credits was a good business decision?
Do you actually believe Tesla's management debated whether or not to accept federal tax credits and they used some kind of brilliant analysis to conclude it was in their company's best interest to accept millions of free dollars from taxpayers?

No

We can keep skirting the real points if you want, that's fine.

My company's execs all make 7-8 figures. Their parking lot has a few Teslas sitting in between the Maseratis, Range Rovers, and a single ASton Martin Vanquish that gets my pants tight when I walk past it.

I drove one of the higher end Teslas through a friend, and the pickup is insane. It was like a golf cart with rocket boosters. Took several laps around my neighborhood to get used to it. Just about gave us both whiplash just trying to ease off the line at green lights.

You missed my larger point for asking that question. I'll take the blame, that's on me if you didn't see where I was going with that and you actually thought it was just a legit question.

I brought up the tax credits responding to the point they "made a profit" in 2016. They showed a profit only because of the federal tax credits they received. They lost money in 2016 and continue to lose money on every vehicle they sell on an operational basis.

Personally, my "main gripe" is Musk has not achieved a single forecast on time that he has ever announced for Tesla. It's a credit to him that he can continue to influence investors to buy TSLA stock with that kind of failing track record.

ETA: I understand Musk being a bit childish when it comes to admiting his shortcomings and that’s fine - he is a strange and egotistic guy. But to just bash the company for no reason other than government subsidies is shortsighted. Tesla and SpaceX are American born and grown companies that, as far as I know, employ Americans in America lol. Meanwhile, “American” auto manufacturers like GM, Ford, and Chrysler outsource manufacturing to Mexico and still take government subsidies...so what am I missing? What makes Tesla so evil? It’s a US company revolutionizing a global market, shouldn’t we be supportive of it?

Like many tech companies, the fanboys can turn off the neutral folks. I'm not suggesting that's a logical reason to dislike Tesla, but it happens.

It's not. I'm just pointing out that the old, lethargic Detroit company beat Musk to market by as much as a year to the affordable long range electric vehicle market.

You seriously don't see a problem with that?

Or are we still grading Tesla on the typical "Elon Musk" curve?

It wasn't worded well there, but I've stated it a few other times when I say "loves Tesla" I followed it up by stating that also means he knows about Tesla, so he knows that will bring about delays.

Also, I still don't get your point entirely. He likes the car, he knows the car will come in later than December of this year. He likes the car enough to wait a bit longer to get it. What's your issue? I honestly don't get it.

If Musk promises something for a specific day, add 18-24 months and you might be in the neighborhood.

I read a good article the other day that was based on a letter from David Einhorn. He basically said company valuation techniques are dead, and even the prospect of being profitable is irrelevant if you're considered a disruptive company. Thought it was a pretty interesting perspective.

I don't think anyone has an issue with your friend being content to wait for his car. I think the issue being brought up is with the long term viability of Tesla and the repeated failures to meet targets.

Read page 1 or any other Tesla thread.

You're being horribly disingenuous if you don't think the subsidies isn't arguably the top gripe from posters who hate Elon. Even still, maybe it's the 2nd biggest gripe, point still stands.

If you're talking about from a business perspective and stating how much trouble they'd be in without the subsidies, I take no issues with that. But when people are just rambling about hating Elon and subsidies are almost always at or near the top of that list, that's just illogical IMO.

Like I said, your main gripe is from a business perspective, zero issues there. If someone just fricking loves the car, knows there will be delays from original target dates, but they would prefer to wait a few extra months and get the car they want as opposed to getting a car they want less just because they could get it a few months early, why is that an issue or why does that make someone a "fanboy"?
