Of course, we all knew that being fat was not good for you in the first place, but a lot of people (media) have been avoiding the obesity correlation with poor COVID outcomes.

It needs to be shouted from the mountain tops. The fat are the most vulnerable (after the old).

quote:

One of the largest studies conducted of COVID-19 infection in the US has found that obesity of patients was the single biggest factor, after age, in whether those with COVID-19 had to be admitted to a hospital.

quote:

"The chronic condition with the strongest association with critical illness was obesity, with a substantially higher odds ratio than any cardiovascular or pulmonary disease," write lead author Christopher M. Petrilli of the NYU Grossman School and colleagues in a paper, "Factors associated with hospitalization and critical illness among 4,103 patients with COVID-19 disease in New York City,"

quote:

Obesity, in this case, was measured as weight relative to a person's height. The authors use a metric scale, so a body mass index of 30 and higher is considered obese.

BMI is flawed when it comes to low body fat gym rats in here though, so I guess it doesn't apply

They can't leave their house without a forklift. They've been self-quarantining for years.

I would like to know how many of the elderly patients that died were also obese.

Being obese is not a good mix with anything in general.

True!

But it has a crazy high correlation within the COVID positive population to needing care in an admitted hospital setting.

Higher than normal disease.

Have you ever heard a fat person breathe? This should be pretty obvious

Obvious AF. Yet almost never mentioned in media reports. You hear a lot of stories about how this group or that group is faring worse. None of those stories seem to mention obesity, untreated diabetes, untreated hypertension, etc.

I hope Corona cuts those who are a work in progress some slack. I started walking and eating clean again in October. I had started to get a nice streak in 2019 going and lost 25 lbs BUT then I got the flu and pneumonia/bronchitis. Did a number on me. So I got back on it after getting to 275.

Down to 240 now, walking an hour or so daily and eating clean. I guess I'd still be considered obese BUT I'm on the right track. 35 down. 35-40 to go. Hope my will to succeed gets me by safely as it is with Corona.

I got back on the wagon again today. Eating clean and cutting back on booze. Time to drop this last 20-30 lbs.

Good for you! All it takes is true commitment and the first step in the right direction to get going. I lost 110 before when called for, but I didn't do it hastily or with some fad. Clean eating, vitamins, and exercise. No short cuts!

Hope you succeed. I just finished a 3.5 mile walk myself...one step at a time bro. You'll get there just stay at it. The motivation will build on itself, like a snowball rolling down hill.

And yes, sorry but liquid calories are the devil trying to lean up. As you get "sauced" on losing weight...you won't really miss the booze so much. You make the right investment in yourself, it won't appeal so much moving forward.

If you get coronavirus, you only have a 99.5% chance of survival. You should be asking for prayers on Facebook.

Thanks, I’m down 55 lbs from my largest weight a few years ago. I just got comfy at this current weight. It’s tome to finish the journey. I can maintain weight no problem. I’m looking forward to the joint pain being gone while I’m eating clean.
