Reading the flow chart.....

Over 65: 87% probability of being admitted

Next highest on the list: Non-obese male diabetics between the ages of 44 and 65 (83% chance of admittance).

I picked the wrong time to be a non-obese 42 year old diabetic (I’m going to guess the 2 years between 42 and 44 don’t mean much).

Is that for uncontrolled diabetes?

I can tell you from the horse's mouth(RN in the ICUs of two big hospitals) the BMI threshold for this being a death sentence has been over 40.

Instinctively I would guess uncontrolled...but honestly this data set kind of scares me.

Out of 3282 cases considered in the study. 62 were non-obese males between 44 and 64 with diabetes, of which a vast majority were admitted.

(1) I struggle to see how 2% of the population fits that description. Type-1 has about a 1% incidence rate (so male type 1’s are 0.5% of the populace) and I don’t think non-obese type 2‘s outnumber type 1’s at a 3:1 ratio?

(2) I would think if the issue were control they would be closer to 50/50 and not 83/17 favored toward admittance?

(3) There is a possibility diabetics are being admitted for precautionary only, and genuinely negative outcomes are more related to control.

I keep mine strong by smoking so that they're constantly having to work harder and getting better.

But it has a crazy high correlation within the COVID positive population to needing care in an admitted hospital setting.

Higher than normal disease.

Makes sense most fatties can't go up 3 stairs without huffing and puffing. A disease that attacks the lungs would not be good for them. Thin the herd...

Being obese is not a good mix with anything in general.

I'm not sure why people try to fight this so much. Of course, there are drawbacks to being 4-5% body fat, but I can tell you from personal experince, being fat is not fun.

I am a little under 5'8". I'm currently sitting at around 205-210 as I've gotten into working out since self-isolation started. I have been 175 pounds, lifting and eating right every day. I have also been 240 pounds due to boozing and overeating.

The difference in the way you feel when you are at a healthy weight and you're obese is almost obscene. Everything is better. Confidence levels, social interactions, motivation, sex, etc. Again, anecdotally here, but there is nothing that is gained by being overweight other than delusion.

It is not "body-positive" to be obese. Take it from a person that has been in both camps.

If they’re non obese and diabetic, that’s typically type 1 diabetes, their life span isn’t all that long to begin with due metabolic episodes of alkalosis, acidosis, etc
