12z GFS shows nearly perfect conditions for strengthening over the Gulf.

It is also not ideal for areas well inland. That low slingshots it NNE and it is still at 976mb when it is damn near to Atlanta.

Just like Michael.

That bastard was laying down pines well into south central GA.

You could see twisted trees from I10 W of Tallahassee until not long ago. It was basically a giant tornado.

Starting to come together. Pretty impressive that 7 or 8 days ago the models could see this was going to happen.

ETA: The 12z ICON and Canadian look much more realistic for this kind of setup.

To add,

here are what the 12z runs show for Tuesday evening:

GFS

CMC

ICON

So, we will know here pretty soon if the GFS is off its rocker (it likely is). There isn't even an invest tag for this yet, and the primary vort max appears to be over land at the moment. From nothing to 983 mb in 60hrs would be impressive.

I had a crew in Marianna, FL cleaning up.

It looked like someone took a giant weed eater and cut all the pines off about 15 feet up from Panama to Blakely, GA.

Does the wind of God (cold front) keep it away from LA?

That drive on 231 from PC to Marianna post Michael looked like Tuscaloosa did after the tornado and I’d argue Tyndall AFB - Mexico Beach on 98 was far worse due to the storm surge they took.

Shoot some houses in Mexico Beach are still being rebuilt as we speak and the dunes are basically gone over there in areas.

TD helped my mom. I wouldn’t say it saved her, but she lives about ~60-70 miles west of where Michael made landfall. The morning before the 10AM NHC update I was reading the storm thread. Told my mom it’s time to head out before the NHC update and the craze started. She was getting on I-10 when the update hit. She said her friend who tried to leave 2 hours later was stuck in traffic.

Long story short: I’m grateful to you TD weather baws.

I’m mostly clueless at reading these models, but running the GFS out to the end (Oct 8th) is it showing another hurricane spinning up and running into the Florida panhandle in almost the same area?

If this is the next monster storm and its supposed to make landfall later in the week, how is this not even an invest yet? Its supposed to go from Invest to Cat 3 landfall in 4 days?

I stayed about an hour north of panama city visiting the area springs last week. I was shocked at how even that far north, the land looked like it was an few year old clear-cut. Just vines and little trees. It took a bit to understand why just people decided to put their home (trailers really) in an old clear cut. I guess they were there before it looked like shite. The landowners with enough money have cleared the debris and replanted longleaf but most was just on the slow road to recovery. That area didn't seem to be doing great economically and I'm sure Michael was very much not helping that.
