Yeah I never heard the wind get bad. I'm in SW Spalding County 2 miles from the Pike line. Had our daughter sleep in our bed with us because of the wind threat but turns out she probably would have been fine to sleep in her bed. But better safe than sorry

Not sure about Augusta but I’m in Greenville and we are getting hammered and I have a bunch of friends in Columbia that weren’t expecting much that are waking up to no power and all hell breaking loose so Augusta isn’t probably in great shape

I spoke too soon. Power is out and I’m getting notices of downed trees everywhere. Going to be a busy day at work.

That’s simply inaccurate.

Augusta update?

I’m in Aiken in a hotel in the dark.
Power went out at 5:30 and intense wind and rain.
Hopefully it’s starting to move out.

model forecast 5 days out isn't always accurate let alone 12 days.

No shite but the GFS for Helen has been pretty accurate from pretty early on. It predicted a storm spinning up two weeks out and after a few days of runs showing it hitting a few areas it had the track hitting the panhandle and never changed.

It really seems like the NHC missed the mark on this hurricane. Instead of Atlanta getting hit directly, it will be a glancing blow. This is a huge mistake involving a large metro area.

Flint River near Molena

A little over 18 ft. Jesus!

Thanks for that. Molena is 20 mins.away. I'd like to see what the Flint looks like at Hwy.92 on the Fayette/Spalding line.

Fountain Inn checking in with no power and steady 35-40 mph winds gusting to 60. Next couple hrs will see gusts towards 70-80

Nearby creek already flooded halfway up walking trail.

Gonna be fun next couple of hours. But instant coffee now and bourbon later will get us through it

Somehow I still have power in Columbia. But it’s flickered about 5 times

They don't miss many so I don't want to get on them too much. They must have really underestimated the impact that upper-level low had in it moving NE

ETA: It was still w/in the cone so they really didn't miss.

What were the big differences between the data and projections?

Storm seemed to go a lot further east than anticipated. Pretty much all of metro ATL clear to Athens missed tropical storm winds. I live in Athens area and we did get a frick ton of rain but really very little wind.

What happened to that loop back to the NW over Tennessee? It looks to be moving NE.

You can’t be serious. The center of the storm hasn’t left the cone from the last two days.
