Have we discussed that Hurricane John just made landfall, dissipated, reformed offshore of Mexico and is gonna make another landfall as a hurricane all within roughly 24 hours

Power lines. Downed trees. Flooded roads. Debris causing flat tires. This is a bad plan. Go early and get a hotel room until check in if you can’t cancel.

If you get into trouble you’re diverting resources from people who really need it.

It's because of that a-hole Bama fan saying this season is weak. He spoke this weird shite into existence. I think he may be a god. Not THE God, just a god.

Now that this is looking pretty bad, who are going to be the idiot storm chasers we can follow that will be in this mess? I want to see a dumbass like the one for Michael who had to abandon his vehicle then watch it float away.

I thought that guy had live-streamed his own death when he ran out of that vehicle with storm surge rushing in.

That truck looks to be too nice to be a storm chaser not a scratch on it. Most have hail and other damage. Maybe he stays far enough away?

He doesn't chase tornadoes. Only hurricanes.

I think people really don’t understand what the impact of a cat 4-5 hurricane entails.

There is 20 feet of water being predicted to be pushed into inlets south of I10 with 12” of rain predicted to fall on top of that with 130mph sustained winds moving through an area almost entirely covered with pines and low lying swamps.

This isn’t some afternoon thunderstorm that’s gonna drain off in 15 mins. There isn’t gonna be anywhere for it to drain off to because that entire part of the state is about to flood.

Hurricane #Helene is developing a nascent eye on satellite imagery, albeit with a still fragmented eyewall. Central pressure continues to fall at a steady pace, now 975mb. Helene is still developing its inner core structure and mixing out some dry air that was ingested this morning. Eventually, after this dry air fully mixes out and the eyewall fully materializes, Helene will likely begin intensifying at a more rapid pace later tonight or tomorrow morning.

From NWS Tallahassee's local discussion/advisory:

quote:

Hurricane Helene continues to strengthen in the southern Gulf of Mexico this evening. It is now forecast to rapidly intensify into a powerful Category 4 hurricane before making landfall along the Florida Big Bend on Thursday.

Confidence is increasing for catastrophic impacts across our region including high winds, catastrophic and life-threatening storm surge in Apalachee Bay, flash flooding from heavy rainfall, and a few tornadoes. Helene is a large storm and impacts will extend well outside the cone of uncertainty. Preparations should be completed this evening, as conditions deteriorate during the day Thursday.

Wind Threat: It is increasingly likely that Helene will make landfall along the FL Big Bend coast on Thursday as a Major Hurricane. While exact impacts will be heavily dependent on the eventual track, expect catastrophic wind damage across the Big Bend and into southern Georgia. Widespread and prolonged power outages, damage to critical infrastructure, catastrophic damage to the trees and powerlines, widespread inaccessibility due to blocked roads, and damage to well-built structures will all be likely, particularly close to and east of the track. Power outages will likely last days, if not weeks. Due to the quick forward speed of Helene, significant wind damage will likely extend well into Georgia.

Surge Threat: There is a danger of catastrophic and unsurvivable storm surge for Apalachee Bay. Storm surge may begin to arrive as early as late Wednesday night ahead of the winds. This forecast, if realized, is a nightmare surge scenario for Apalachee Bay. Please, please, please take any evacuation orders seriously!
