the last two years heb, has installed self check out in all of its stores with the objectives being to transfer labor from employees to customers and cut cost. much like Walmart and other large retailers have done.
this past year heb has installed systems to provide curbside pick up service. which transfers labor from customers to store employees and add cost. other large retailers are doing the same thing
this would seem to be a great example of being counter productive

both self checkout and curbside pick up are about convenience, not cost

It's called keeping up with competition.

I've seen this in action.
Here is what you're feeble mind is not understanding. No offense btw.
One person goes and fills up basically 4 baskets. So it's not some huge overhead. And they charge a fee for this. Less checkout lines open, etc
No theft, less insurance concern. Plus this is the future.

They charge a fee for the curbside pick-up so the customer eats the cost. Two working parents are more than willing to pay a 3% fee to save the time of someone else doing the grocery shopping and just picking it up.
More revenue, customer eats the cost of employees, and customers are enjoying the free time. Everyone wins, yay marketplace!

It's all about improving the customer experience.
You pay for the curbside pick-up. They are not losing money on this I can assure you.

One of the best things to come from God's country. They need to somehow get a foothold in the Dallas market (besides Central market).

the frick
I actually prefer going to the store myself (I actually enjoy it) so I really don't do the curbside, but I see the appeal.
My only complaint about it (at least for the one by Bridgeland) is all the larger carts that the employees use for curbside taking up the aisle and making it harder to get around. I didn't have that problem at the one in Fairfield. I guess more people at the one by my new house use curbside so there are more of the big carts. Although the Birdgeland HEB seems more crowded in general since there isn't another one that close and there are definitely more homes in the area surrounding the store versus Fairfield.

I shop Walmart for groceries way more often since they have free pickup. Add stuff to the list on their app and schedule a pickup time. I go to another store for produce and meat but Walmart makes it a lot easier for the rest of the list.
