I don’t do curbside service,I like to pick out my own stuff.I do prefer self-checkout because I like to bag my own groceries.Besides, lots of the checkout women at WalMart acted like they were pissed off.

Where I see a cost for the store is this, stop using 1 plastic bag for 1 item, it's ridiculous.
FYI, HEB Meyerland gonna be a BEAST of a store. Very close to finishing up.

Do you really not understand the benefit of having both?

Reading that post made me think of this, but replace Walmart with HEB.

Instance 1 is for those shoppers who go into the store. Instance 2 is for those shoppers who prefer to have someone else do their shopping. Different audiences. Not to mention if other retailers are doing it they need to respond.
I don't like someone else selecting my produce and certain other items so I am not a likely candidate for curb-side.
I don't like making small talk with the cashier so I am a great candidate for self scanning check-out.

Didn't think this one through, did you?

I actually prefer going to the store myself (I actually enjoy it) so I really don't do the curbside, but I see the appeal.
I do too when purchasing certain meats and produce but all the other staple things, curbside is worth the price.

Do they charge a fee for curbside pickup? If so, then it’s not counterproductive. Puts the extra labor cost on the user. If not, well then that’s just really convenient.

HEB is fricking disgusting. Been to two and they were both trashed everywhere. Felt like I was walking down Bourbon St.

It's solving two very different issues.
Moving to self-checkout is about saving labor costs.
The curbside pickup is all about expanding their customer base, as well as, expanding the total amount sold. I would imagine that customers doing curbside pick up tend to buy more than customers shopping in-store. Grocery stores are all about volume, so the more people buy, the better they do.

this past year heb has installed systems to provide curbside pick up service.
Most all major chains do that now. Nothing new at HEB.
