I'm afraid you were crying to the wrong old lady on the phone when you called. Wait until the bill falls on the right persons desk

I was under the impression that once you file an insurance claim, ObamaCare makes it illegal for the healthcare provider to accept any payments outside of what your plan prescribes - e.g. pay cash with no insurance claim or file a claim, but no in between.

Same. Just use fake names. Illegal to ask for ID
I watch a lot of police body cam videos on youtube and all the criminals and poors who are constantly breaking the law never have their IDs lol

Drop your insurance then, and become one of the non payers leaching off the payers.

As it turns out, my insurance covers the clinic but the doctor who did the procedure worked freelance....so my insurance did not cover the doctor.

Moved to Spain several years ago. Public healthcare system here is tremendous. Wife had an illness - got an appt in 24 hours (and, we called on a Sunday to get one). She had bloodwork, xrays and a scan done all on that Monday with most results in the same day (thankfully, nothing serious). No charge for anything. Now, taxes are high (basically 20% of your income), but you actually get something in return for them. Oh, and prescriptions are insanely inexpensive here. US healthcare is broken, and it needs a systemic overhaul.

We don’t have healthcare in this country, we have sick care. Insurance, especially medical, is one of the largest scams known to man and are 100% in bed with the medical/pharma industries to screw the payer.
This. Our medical system is designed to treat you after you get sick and keep you in the system.
We do not practice preventative medicine

I said, "Look, I understand you're trying to collect and this bill, and I understand you offer cash discounts for those unable to pay. All I've got is $490.00 left on this FSA bill. Can you take that and settle the account?" It's .80 on the dollar but they've already been paid a portion by insurance. I'm paying on time. Maybe they do me a solid. They give cash service discounts all the time.
That’s not how this works boomer. Pay your bills

Simply call back in an hour, speak with a different person, and get a whole different result.
Or send them a check for 5 dollars and tell them that is all you can afford at this time. I know a few bums that do this. As long as you make a attempt to pay they can't do anything then eventually they will just wash it away.

I tell people this all the time. Obamacare forced me to leave our small business and get a corporate job that provided benefits and left my wife to run the business.
Pre-Obamacare our individual family plan from BC/BS was $400/month with a reasonable deductible.
Post-Obamacare, the exact same plan was $2000/month with increased deductible and less coverage.
There's not a small business owner we know that doesn't have a spouse working a corporate job for the benefits. We simply made too much money to qualify for the 'cheaper' plans.

Tell them you identify as an illegal immigrant. You’ll get whatever you want at no charge.
