Ive got 4 kids. To me, it was always easier having them back to back. The main reason is you are still in baby mode and the house is still set up for babies, etc. As opposed to waiting and getting spoiled by the older kids who become independent and then having to suddenly jump back into baby mode.

you will be fine. I think it is easier to have them back to back. My first 2 are 18 months apart. 4 years later had our 3rd. Having 1 kid is a big life change......the 2nd one really was very little change at all vs having 1. 2 is really easy to deal with once you have things rolling. 3 is where it really changes. Very little difference in 1 vs 2.....but there is a huge difference in 2 vs 3.

I'm only having one child, but if I were to have multiple I'd want them close in age like that. You'll be busy as hell for the next few years, but with them close in age they can play together which will be nice.

with one child, parents can play zone or one on one at times to give each other a break; with two that close in age parents are forced to play one on one 24/7 or worse 2 kids vs one parent, good luck...

This saying is pretty true and kicked around a lot because it's funny, I get it.

If we're doing a football analogy, let's be honest. Sure you're playing man to man coverage, but you're playing Les Miles. He is going to run a fake punt from the 1 yard line up by 40.

4 year old and 2 year old. Wife's BC comes out next Tuesday. I'm not a smart man.

Mine are 16 months apart. Its not that bad. Teach your oldest to tickle and crawl chase. When they laugh and play together, it will melt your heart.

You man-to-man guys are crazy. Every guy knows to switch to zone coverage. Bed time, eating, and getting them ready for outting go full court press to keep mother happy.

Most women are infertile while breastfeeding.

The breastfeeding delays ovulation in most cases .

It's not simply "they don't want to have sex due to hormones"...

It’s not twice as hard with two kids, it’s exponentially harder.

My daughter turned 2 in December, and then 2 weeks later my son was born.

I'll agree there is the struggle of being thrown off routine again - our daughter was a great sleeper from the get-go, no issues with going from crib to bed. Son, on the other hand, stayed in the crib all night for the first time in 4 months last night. Definitely have upped my caffeine intake in the past few months.

Also, the 2-on-1 is tough. My wife's a RN with random hours - so I've got to get them both ready for daycare a few times a week. Pretty much assured one is going to be crying or not cooperating, but you just learn how to make it happen.

Well, just had our first child (girl) 4 months ago. Wife just informed me we are pregnant again. Any of you baws had kids back to back this close? Any tips would be helpful.

This actually the best way to go. The kids will be less inclined to be in competition with each other if they are closer in age. When a 3-5 year old gets a baby sibling, game on!

Once you’re past the diaper stage, the kids will play together and occupy each other’s time better, leaving Mom and Dad a bit more time for getting stuff done.

Also, kids learn to share better in this scenario.

God has blessed you with another life. This is happy news. You got this!

We just had our first two weeks ago and wonder when would be the right time for the second. Some aspects of back to back discussed in this thread make sense. But what do y'all do about daycare? Those costs seem outrageous.

ETA: We are probably looking to do 2 years apart.

I have 4 kids, and the youngest two are 14 months apart. It's a shock initially, but as others have said I think it's a good thing. They are 5 and 4 now and are best buds (girl and boy). I think they'll actually end up being closer pals than our older two are (12 and 10).
