re: Does anyone have Starlink?
Posted by BabySam on 4/24/25 at 7:44 am
Im in pensacola/ft walton area and just received the "mobile" (RV, travel) model a week ago. I wanted to do some test/eval for starlink and personal first hand experience. Gotta say, from ordering to receiving/setup, it's pretty damn impressive user experience.
On their website there is a sale for the standard home kit for $149 until the end of April. When poking around to make my order, I found i would also have to pay a one time $100 congestion fee. Which I assume is due to the popularity in our area as we are at mercy of the average ISPs available.
If i have any further service related issues with my ISP, I'm going to make the switch to Starlink for home use. The only thing i haven't tested yet is gaming scenrio due to the latency that's normal in satellite comms. So depending on your use case, standard internet needs seems like a no-brainer. Couple that with your own power backup and you'll have comms when others won't in storm/hurricane situations.

re: Print from Android phone to network shared printer?

Any possibility your router has print sharing builtin? Then could connect printer direct to router and make it accessible from router GUI. At least i know some netgear and asus models had that capability

Been using 1password for several years and am quite happy with it. Most importantly, my wife adapted to it and now has secure passwords, which is important since she does all the bills.

What is your use case?
re: Starlink for typical household service. Anybody use it?

From what buddies with firsthand use have told me, it's best option if all you have is dsl/dialup in rural area. If you can get high speed cable/fiber then do it.
re: The blocked punt

I dont know if still applicable form the recent rules changes, but i thought there used to be specific wording for what defenders/rushers could not do to the "shield" blockers in the punt formation...

re: Recovering Data from and External Drive
Posted by BabySam on 8/20/24 at 9:48 pm
Total crapshoot based on how damaged drive is. But it's gonna cost an easy $1000+ from recent discussion with a company. Idk if booting your recovery computer into safe mode may help for when you connect faulty drive to it (minimal drivers and services thought)....have a friend with or a spare desktop you could try slaving it into to eliminate usb controller/driver? Grasping at additional options at this point

re: Facebook Hacking

Should probably change passwords to accounts that are tied to same email. Happened to my wife years ago and was a PITA to get cleared up. Did your family member click a link from text or something and get prompted for FB password to view it? You can report the account as a friend
re: Network printer issues.

Is printer IP static? Are all users mapping to IP of printer, or is it shared out from one pc like kork mentioned?
