If those chains are pure gold, there is no chance it will be drawn to an MRI machine since pure gold isn't magnetic.

Now, if it's an alloy mixed with metals that are magnetic, OOOOPPPPPSSS.

I've had 4 MRI's in the past year, I forgot to take my belt off for one of them and it started pulling me really hard. Hit the panic button thing they give you and they came and took my belt off. Scared the crap out of me when my hips started lifting up

DEI clinic? How the hell does this happen? I call BS

Is there any metal, typically worn as jewelry, that is magnetic?

He probably had a tattoo of those clapping hands with the mardi gras beads too.

Can’t hide a 20 lb chain. Cant believe a tech let him in the room.

The information I saw online said his wife was having an issue and he ran in the room past the tech with the chain on. Seems the most likely given no one with a brain would let him in with a 20 lb chain and lock around his neck.

Also why was he wearing a 20 pound workout chain around his neck at an imaging center?

I worked on MRI rooms back in my medical center days. The magnet is always on, so I would have to empty all pockets before going in, and then you walk through a metal detector and if it's not green, you don't go in.

The magnet can be deactivated, but it requires quenching the liquid helium used for cooling... which would kill anyone if they happened to be working on the roof in the immediate vicinity of the quench tube. It also freezes the roof and ruins its integrity, so there's a sacrificial layer down that has to be replaced if that ever happens.

Interesting info, I stand corrected

I feel like the tech should've known this as well then, making them liable?

Dang, I have one of those as well and wouldn't have even thought to report that if having one done.

Nope, local imaging center. They do MRI, CT scans, etc.

They call you back and bring you to a secondary waiting room and they have lockers. They tell you there to take everything metal out and store it in the locker. Just forgot my belt that time.

I had an MRI at UAB as well and I didn't have to put on a gown, just remove all metal.

This sounds more believable than a tech just waiving a non-patient in to help their patient, when they have staff on site for that purpose. Especially if the non-patient is fully dressed and has an obvious metallic object on him

The machine is not always on but was clearly on in this situation, and if true, that hospital is gonna get very sued.

The hospital will be getting sued big money regardless of the circumstances of the incident..

A tech should definitely know all of this.

I’m just curious if it was a gradual pull towards the machine or it happened at lightning speed.

it was almost undetectable until it wasn't

They don't make slow magnets.

The man was told not to go in there multiple times by the staff. and supposedly heard his wife screaming for someone to help her get up off the table, and he just decided to rush in there.

Seems like they’ll have security cameras and a number of eyewitnesses to corroborate when the woman tries to sue them.

Because had he not been wearing a 20lb chain around his neck he wouldn't have been the center of attention.

I have a spinal stimulator which has to be compatible with the mri machine and must be put in “ mri mode”. That being said, ended up in the emergency room a couple years ago and needed an mri, tech thought the machine was compatible but the stimulator started heating up and they had to shut down and get me the hell out of it.

That’s not because of what it is made of. Same reason you don’t lay USB drives down on magnets or get them near your computer hard drive.
