There's also close to zero chance illegals would risk getting caught doing something like this.
This was done by bored teenagers or young adults looking for social media cred, or as a way to draw more attention to a situation that needs it.
Why the frick does China own so much of America? And do we have to just let it rot there and foot the bill for maintenance?

I’m suspicious this example in the OP is “taking over downtown LA.” Having been there in the recent past. And also wonder if this wasn’t some city-allowed “art” thing.
Anyway, you haven’t seen true city-wide graffiti until you’ve been to Lisbon. It seems everyone is ok with it, as long as it stays off churches and historical stuff. But it’s otherwise ubiquitous.

It’s not. These buildings were abandoned because the developer went bankrupt.

Abandoned buildings get graffiti, more news at 6. The hits keep coming for commercial real estate if they couldn't find a buyer and let these sit empty for 5 years not collecting property tax

These are mostly residential towers with ground floor retail.
