Was with my Mother In Law when she passed.
I’ve been elbow deep in cadavers multiple times for training.

Pulled up right after a homeless guy got hit on his bike trying to cross airline at Siegen. Just happened earlier this year. Was weird. Blood gurgling out of his head still. People were trying to cover him with whatever they could. Show curtain, sweatshirts, etc. Witness said a truck pulling a trailer stack of cars was driving down airline and the homeless guy veered into the trailer and got his head caught between the rails of the trailer. Pretty much snapped his neck then slung him into the ground

Yes and Yes
Many times.
Many times.

I die a little more each day, so yeah.
Seriously, though, I got to the Nursing home 15 minutes after my Mom died because I stopped at Racetrac for a drink.
Walking into her room and trying to wake her up, then telling someone she wasn’t breathing only to be told oh honey she passed 15 minutes ago was brutal.

Yes. I watched my wife die while I tried to resuscitate her. Worse day of my life and have nightmares about it. Man, I miss her. Think I always will. She was an awesome lady.

When I was 19 I watched my mom die from a brain aneurysm. When I was 33 I watched my dad die from lung cancer. One death was quick, the other long. Neither was easy or makes for a "good story". Not a day goes by that I don't think of them and miss them immensely.

Yes to many times to count. Sadly it’s about like watching the sun come up normal for me.

At a train crossing (S. West Street - a 4 lane street) in Jackson one night, many years back. A train was coming fast. Red lights flashing at crossing, Train horn sounding loudly. I was in the center lane, stopped, and a car came up beside me. It was obvious it wasn't going to stop. I made eye contact with the driver just as he drove right in front of the train and killed himself, his wife and three kids. The train was able to stop about a quarter mile down the tracks, so I did not go look at them, but I knew.
Others and others, and others.
Others and others, and others.

Oh my, I am sorry for your loss
I was with my a Grandma shortly after she passed
I was supposed to stay with her that night but the city had been working on the water & it was brown so I didn’t get to shower before I went to see her
Went to my parents later that night to finally get a shower & some sleep, a few hours later my mom called
It’s weird how something so random can have a huge impact, I was mad for the longest time that I wasn’t with her

Yes and yes. I watched a relative die, and it's amazing how impactful yet the same the body is. It's the same, but somehow you know it doesn't hold life anymore.

I spent over a decade working Level 1 Trauma ER, watched lots of people die. Also saw lots of people not die who without the ER would have.
Helped the coroner and a deputy sheriff carry my 2nd cousin out of his home where he died of heat stroke before I went to work one day.
Another day I walked out to go to work and heard a helicopter, automatically began wondering if it was lifeflight. When I got to the end of the driveway I could see down the highway about 1/4 mile, yep, lifeflight across the street from the drilling rig that started the week before. Got to work about 5 minutes after the helicopter so I missed working on that one. Just as well, the previous drilling rig slip and fall, the guys boot fell off in the exam room, foot still in it.

Yes and yes. Have you ever smelled a dead body that’s been out in the elements a few days? Now that’s a question you should be asking. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbarf.gif)

I was there for the last hours of my dad's life. He picked up a blood infection sometime while on dialysis. I saw what happens as life slowly leaves the mortal body; the "sweat", the color loss, the struggles with breathing, the fingernails. Once you see it, it changes you.
If it was requested again by a loved one to be bedside in a similar situation I'd do it. But I won't subject anyone to the same things if it happens to me.
