Umm...what the hell did you do to get ejected?

In the finals of a soccer tournament when I was 15, we were up 1-0 late in the game. I played left midfield, and coach implored us midfielders not to get sucked too far into the offensive side, and if we did we better bust our arse to get back on defense.

I found myself with the ball near midfield on a counter attack with nothing but green and the opposing goalkeeper in front of me. I instinctively took off with the ball with thoughts of a game and tournament clinching goal in my head. A few yards before the penalty box, an opposing defender caught up with me and tackled me HARD from behind. It was clearly a foul(he got no part of the ball), and probably a yellow, but the ref swallowed his whistle. By the time I got myself up, they had the ball well past midfield. By the time I got myself back into our defensive side of the field, they had put the ball in the back of the net. Coaches were screaming at me.

They eventually won on penalty kicks. I felt sick for weeks.

Did you ever make an error or mistake playing baseball, basketball, or football that you won't forget?

The core of our baseball team had been together for about 9 years or so by the time my senior year rolled around. During legion that year two of our former pitchers were able to come back and play because they were young enough and they were pitching in college. We were pretty loaded and ready to make a run at state that summer. Played well all summer and were poised to move on and got caught it a tight game. We had several opportunities to win the game and missed.

I came up to the pate, down 1 run with 2 outs in the bottom of whatever the final inning was at that time (not sure if were were playing the full 9) with a runner on second. The game was being played at UNO, and I remember thinking to myself I wanted to catch a pitch so hard I'd send it into Lake Pontchartrain! After getting a mediocre fastball EXACTLY where I wanted and fouling it straight back (meaning I had JUST missed it) I got a second one slightly higher in the zone and popped it up to short. As soon as I hit it the first thought that came to my mind was that I'd just ended the baseball careers of me and most of my friends.

Yeah...I still think about it.

My first homecoming date my Freshman year of HS wanted to go bowling after the dance. We were both too young to get into the after party as they were actually looking at IDs that time. Don't know why. LOL

So, we go bowling and she proceeds to kick the shite out of me. Bowls over 200 while I barely broke 100.

i got taken out of a football game one time because it was muddy and my uniform was too clean

Caught a pass, got jacked, fumbled on about the three with little time remaining. TD would have won it.

Also dropped a fly ball in center field that would have been the last out for my friend’s no hit game. We lost.

The only time I ever fumbled and the only time I ever dropped a fly ball.

Both 41 years ago, and both still haunt me.

playing 2B in parish championship game.
we were looking to 3-peat and 4 titles in 5 years.

bottom 7 (last inning) tied game bases loaded 1 out.

we playing infield in to cut off the run at the plate.
a damn near perfect grounder hit to me.
scoop it clean while charging and fire home.
in the dirt and up the line a little.
run scores, game over, we lose.

was only our 2nd loss in 5 years for most of that team.

Kickball league when I was around 26, high fly ball to center field, hit me in the chest and bounces about as high as it was kicked. I'm pretty athletic so this was a huge hit to my ego.

First year playing Little League. I'm playing second base in the first inning of my first ever game. First ball my way. Sharp ground ball to my left that hits a rock and takes a bad hop to the right about two feet in front of me. I swing my left hand (glove hand) behind my back while still moving to my left and the ball blindly goes right into my glove. Everyone in the bleachers, including my parents, all jump out of their seats and cheer. Runner is about half way to first and I have all day to make the throw. So I take my time and throw the ball about fifteen feet over the first baseman's head and completely over the back stop and into the parking lot. Everyone in the bleachers, including my parents, sits back down and groan.

Didn’t cost them the game, but my son and his holder made a mess of it last week.

I was a role player on my college basketball team. We had a star player one year who was a freak athlete. Strong as shite, fastest player on the floor, and could jump out of the gym. It was all genetics as he never worked hard in practice or the weight room. A common theme for our season was throwing lobs that he would dunk on some poor schmuck standing near the rim.

One game I'm dribbling beyond the 3 point line and make eye contact with this freak athlete. Clearly we just silently communicated for me to throw a backside lob to him. I do it. He stands still. Everyone in the gym just looks at me like wtf are you spastically throwing the ball from 4 feet behind the arc wildly near the goal.

Coach immediately removed me from the game to my usual spot on the bench.

10 or 11 years old little league baseball. We were playing the team who had beaten us at state the year before in an elimination game to get to the championship. Up 1-0 in the 5th (of 6 total innings) they had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and I was catching. Runner on 3rd was taking a huge secondary lead and I just knew I could gun him down. I get a pitch high and away and immediately gun one to 3rd. Had him dead in the water, he was so shocked trying to get back to the base that he slipped and fell. Only the ball went about 15 feet over the 3rd basemans head down the left field line. Both runs scored. We lost 2-1. I cried for about a week over that one.

In my early 20's I played really competitive Beach Volleyball.

in the semifinals tied score at 23-23 I mis-hit a ball out of bounds and screamed an explitive. Automatic red card which awards a point to the other side.

hit ball out of bounds...point
red card.... point

BOOM Ballgame 23-25...bounced out of the tournament.

My partner was pretty pissed at me until we drank ourselves into oblivion that night

First year high school wrestling. Our 171lb Varsity guy tweaked his shoulder or something that day. Coach found me about mid day at school and told me I was the only other option. Nervous all day long, get to the match warm up and feeling confident. Opponent head throws me and pins me in about 15 seconds.

I was 8 years old in the last at bat of the last game of the season of 7-8 baseball (coach pitch). I hit my first ever over-the-fence homerun. My dad was coaching first base, and we celebrated so much that I missed touching 1st base. Neither of us realized it, but the opposing coach saw it. He appealed while I was in the dugout, and I was called out. I'd go on to never hit another over-the-fence HR throughout youth baseball.

This doesn't haunt me, and is actually a pretty cool memory now; but it somewhat applies to this thread.
