I was a 20-something playing co-ed softball -- office teams -- pretty low-level stuff.
One game, I hit a double and was standing on second.
The next batter hit a grounder toward a girl in right field. I looked over and thought "Pfft. that girl won't field it, I'm heading home." She fielded it as I was reaching 3rd.
Next thought "she can't make the throw to home". She shocked me with a cannon arm, and rocketed it towards home. I'm at full steam way past 3rd. I'm at full steam now.
I see the catcher is a very pretty, thin, 100 pound early 20s African American girl. I figured "Pfft. she'll duck out of the way of the throw with me running like a rhino." Nope, she's standing firm awaiting the ball. I'm committed now.
I'm thinking "she'll drop the ball, and get out of the way." Nope, she's guarding the plate, made the catch when I'm 2 steps from home, looking to tag me.
By this point, I'm too close to slide, and full of adrenaline. She's standing firm, and I'm not going to clash heads with her, and instinct took over. I drop my shoulder, and trucked her. She literally went flying, dropping the ball, her glove, and one of her shoes. I thought they'd have to call an ambulance. I'm not a big guy, but I was pretty fast, and hit her perfectly.
Half of her team is tending to her, and then folks came over and were checking on me sympathetically, saying stuff like "it's cool. You couldn't avoid it. Are you ok?" My best buddy who was standing behind the backstop was waiting to shake his head, and quietly say "I knew you were going to do that, you competitive a-hole. You should be ashamed of yourself." He was half smiling, though.
I felt (deservingly) like a piece of shite. I don't know what came over me.
To be fair, she was in the base path.
We won, BTW.

No mistakes. I just regret losing the city championship game in 6th grade Brec football . Our best RB got a compound fracture of his forearm in the second quarter and we never recovered. Poor Ronnie.

Playing co-ed softball about 20 years ago, hit a ball into right center and decided to turn it into a double. As I was coming into second base, the right fielder (a dude) fired it into the short-stop (a chick). She closed her glove right before the ball got to her. Ball completely missed her glove and drilled her right in the nose & mouth. This all happened right in front of me, obviously. Freaking haunts me to this day, the sound, the blood, her screaming..... Quit playing co-ed after that. I should have stayed on first base

Hey Steve. Alou would’ve missed the ball anyway. Don’t sweat it.

being a lefty, I wish I would have given being a baseball pitcher a shot.
ETA: I was a big kid, but for pitching that really doesnt matter

High school baseball... was put in a game late (playing outfield) when I was trying to break on to the varsity team. It was at night with bad lighting and the batter hit a high fly ball with men on 2nd and 3rd. In an effort to make a play I ran in as fast as I could... I couldn't track the ball well and next thing you know I am diving backward landing on my butt. Two runs scored, and my ego was crushed. Somehow we still won the game.
I think I must have looked like this guy, but falling backwards...

I missed an alley opp dunk with 2 seconds to play.
Lost championship all bc of my showboating.

First high school football game. I was 3rd string QB and was only a QB because I could throw the ball far, no real QB instinct. I was a pretty good runner and good speed for a white guy. I tried to convince the coach to give me more of a chance at RB but he resisted. Anyway 1st string RB gets hurt on 1st play of the game. About midway thru 1st quarter, 2nd guy goes down but not a game ending. I was I guess the closest guy to point at and coach sent me in. 1st play in is to me, off tackle. One step past the line I see wide open back across the middle. As I plant to cut back, I decide to switch hands with the ball. The ball kept on going the other way and 2 bounced right into the defender's hands. That was my last play as RB that game and I got about 5 more thru high school. Our team sucked anyway, but I always look back at that and wonder what might have happened if I hadn't fumbled that time.

Dropped a wide open TD pass in HS on 4th and goal on their 5 yard line. Wide open as in completely turned facing the QB and not moving wide open. Was so excited I was about to score the game winner. We turned the ball over on downs with about :30 seconds left and lost 28-24.

One time I put a ball in the water hazard, but instead of taking a drop, I kept hitting it until I got on the green.
Cool story, Roy.

not a mistake, but once upon a time I was an amateur hockey player. This one game I got out of the penalty box with a few seconds left, accept the pass and knock the puck in for the last second W. I was way off balance as I shot the puck and crashed into the boards pretty hard. Two opposing players also slammed my head into the boards one after the other. Lost some sight in my eye, ended my hockey career. Good news is I took up figure skating, partners. She was a real ice queen, kind of bratty but hot. We were working on this real cutting edge move, the Pamchenko twist. Could not get it, but after a really bad short program we decided to throw it in and try it out. We nailed it, won the gold, then I nailed her. Pretty awesome moment. Also, those Damn Toe Picks on figure skates are horrible!

Fishing a bass tournament
New 25,000 boat is first prize
I caught the fish to win, but during the day somehow knocked off the power switch, three fish died and I was penalized .75 lb which dropped me out of first to 3rd and lost the boat

State semis in soccer senior year. My dude absolutely burned me and got a breakaway goal. We lost 1-0. That team went on to win by like 6 goals in the final

Senior in high school. Baseball. Pre power rankings. Last game of the year. We win we make the playoffs, we lose we go home. Bottom of the last inning. Down by a run, bases loaded and I swing and miss a high heater for strike three to lose the game and end our season and my career along with the career of several buddies. Been over 20 years and it still makes me want to puke.

My senior year of high school I was pitching and our coach (JC Holt LSU great) made a mound visit. He said to throw all breaking balls to this hitter that was up and lets get back in and score some runs. Im assuming that he didnt tell our pitching coach because our catcher called a fastball first pitch. The batter hit one that I think is still flying. Coach was so mad that I thought he was going to come on the field and punch me. That was the last pitch I ever threw
