Yes. Went from defense contractor (IT) to high school teacher. That was in 2013. It was Shreveport. There weren’t a lot of other options. I’m still teaching and enjoying it.

Sort of.
Started in insurance.
Sold agency at age of 40.
Got into cabinets/kitchen/bath showroom.
At age of 43, trying to get out of showroom at significant loss and will get back into insurance in another state to ride out my non compete.
As another poster said, learn before you jump.
Cabinets, it turns out, come with an expensive learning curve.

I did not have to, but I chose to.
That was 2.5 yrs ago. I turned 43 this past Sunday.

Attended a homecoming at my alma mater back in Leesville and discovered an old 3 story home was for sale - the same house that had been considered "haunted back when I was in grade school - built at the turn of the century but had been in the hands of people who did no maintenance for 50 years.
Bought it and spent 3 years bringing it up to livable state -
then decided to go back to my alma mater as a math teacher - stayed until 2013 when my cancer treatments required I get closer to my doctors in Houston.
So yeah - 3 totally different professions.

Not a complete change but semi. I was 46, middle of Covid, in mgmt working for an oilfield service company. Too many ups/downs, bonuses were basically non existent for past 5-6 years. Took a job with a civil engineering firm as PM. Best decision I think I could have made. No on call, no work on weekends, better work environment. Less stress. Took a pay cut but after a few years, I was back to where I was. Also started getting bonuses again.

The way the universe works is.. first it nudges you.. then it nudges you again... then it slaps the shite out of you to make you shift in the direction you need to go.
Ever come across extra money only to have an unexpected expense cause you to spend everything extra you just got?
Most people bitch that its bad luck.
Its actually good luck. You only got the extra money bc that shite was coming either way.
Keep going until you make it. Once you make it be humble. Lifes here to be lived and enjoyed, not to compete for the he who dies with the most toys bullshite.

Decided to go into sales with a close friends company- he sold the company a few years later.
Good for him. I worked for new company for a few years and was recruited to a new company in same business model.
Worked there 25 years until retirement in fall of 2024.
I felt more comfortable in logistics until i got my feet under me in sales.
Then i preferred being more in control of my territory etc. bonuses and salary etc
