Have you ever had to start over professionally?

I have been let go from a grown up job before. $40k pay cut starting over but it's all working out for the better now. Don't burn bridges and use all the connections you have.

I pivoted career paths 1.5 years out of college, but I’m not sure what you mean “start over” your career path. Did you get fired, or are you just switching career paths.

12 months looking for a new opportunity as of yesterday. Frustrated, but staying positive.

Had to start over every 4 years on average
Graduated during a recession and couldnt not find work. Kept working what I did utnil I got into my field.
Finally got into my field, laid off 2x in 4 years.
Then couldnt find work. Put in over 70 applications before i gave up.
Decided to Start a business. Ran it for 3 years. Then finally failed.
Then went to work offshore.
Got out of debt, paid off my house After 4 years. Been doing it for 8 Years. Making decent money and will be getting ahead if all goes well in the next 6 months. Drive a 20 year old Chevy.
Live pretty basic.
It isnt easy.
Im at the point I can finally afford a wife and family.
Again it isnt easy.

Left 25 year career due to covid policy/DEI. Company decided it didnt want white male Christians workers anymore. Didn't work for 4-5 months. Got a local hourly job for a few months for income. Looked around and figured out what I wanted to do. Found a job which pays much less but much more job satisfaction. Great work environment - all coworkers are white and male.

What field of work did you get DEI'd out of?

I got let go as part of a corporate consolidation. Took a job making about $20k less, and am about to retire from that job next year after 24 years.

Ask me in a year or two. A.I. is rapidly consuming my career field. I still have a chair in the room but they get fewer and fewer and there's no soft landing.

I changed jobs at about 45. Same field, but in a completely different industry. I was at my previous job for 14 years and was paid really well, just burned out.
It turned out to be the best decision I've made in my career.

I remained a physician but switched specialties at age 47 and had to do another residency/ fellowship for 5 years at about a 70% paycut. . Hardest part was coming up to speed with medical knowledge amidst people half my age or less. But one of best decisions i ever made
