Weren't the "racist" songs written in conjunction with a black friend of his that they both thought would be funny for being ridiculously over the top?

Possibly I'm not sure. And again, I like his music. Being written along with a black friend is irrelevant, we see whites today that absolutely hate other whites, blacks can hate or not respect other blacks also.

That isn’t David Allan Coe singing the song you are referring to. He’s mistakenly credited being the artist by a lot of people. I think it’s because who ever uploaded the original file in Napster, Kazaa, Limewire etc put his name as the artist, but he isn’t.

That may be Johnny Rebel.

Talented but crazy. He fired his band once after a show all left them at the bar.

i saw him once. Not a good show but I'd go see him this weekend if he was playing. Haven't been to a concert since Robert Earl Keen in Feb.

Worst concert I’ve ever been to. Grew up loving his music and saw him at night town in Lafayette. He literally sang a few Gretchen Wilson and uncle cracker songs and walked off the stage. I haven’t listened to him since.

Saw him in Laurens, SC back in 94. Bunch of meh. Then I heard the DAC “Dirty Album” and was left speechless and mortified.

The fastest I ever a saw a human run was DAC trying to get off stage when fight broke out in the crowd at one of his shows at the Texas Club.

Nothing to add to this thread except “You Never Even Called Me By My Name” is one of the GOAT group drinking songs

You can’t cancel someone who doesn’t give a frick or depend on anyone else. That’s the beauty of it.

Steve Earle also has a real good version of it.

The man is 80 and hasn’t been able to perform well in decades. He just plays the guitar and hopes you sing along with him so he doesn’t have to. He had some good songs but he wouldn’t give two shits what people thought about him.

I saw him at a bar in Tuscaloosa back in the late 90’s. I swear he took 30 shots of Jager throughout the show. The first 5 songs were good.

I'm pretty sure I was at this show, like October of 98 maybe? I still remember going out of the bar, to the atm, and some black guy asking me what was going on that night. I tried to warn him, but he was like "I gotta see this shite for myself"

I saw him at Live Bait in Jefferson, I guess it was in the 90's. Harry Lee was in the crowd with his cowboy hat on cheering and probably drunker then me.

Hank 3 is great live though. Have a blast at his bar concerts.

I haven’t listened to Hank 3 a whole lot, but to me it kinda sounds like he’s trying his hardest to sound like his grandfather.

I’ve been to one of Jr’s concerts before, I was astonished at how great of a musician he is. I was only like 12 or 13 so I didn’t know about his talents with multiple instruments. He would play like half a song and then stop and talk and then play another half a song and do the same thing. Of course he had that solo cup full of Jim Beam.

Obviously a great songwriter....but Jerry Jeff’s abilities as a live performer are greatly undervalued.

Correct. It was Johnny Rebel from good ol’ Louisiana

fricking Kazaa had me thinking for years when I was a kid/young teenager that ELO sang Blinded by the Light, and many similar examples
