Has anyone had to move their elderly parents in with you?

My MIL had a bad fall a few days ago and it looks like her continuing to live alone in her home is no longer an option. My husband works from home so he can pretty much give her full time care.
We have a studio apartment behind our house that we plan to move her into. She can’t walk for now but we don’t know how much she will improve.
So for those of you who have been here….what do I need to know? What kind of supplies will I need? We have a wheelchair and a shower seat. We’re considering tearing out the new tub to install a walk in shower.

Got close with my dad but sadly he ended up passing away abruptly
but strangely thankfully it was not a long drawn out multiyear painful process for all involved.

That's a great idea. Just making things more accessible will help tremendously. Walkers and wheel chairs obviously help but the main thing is just being there for that piece of mind, although lots of elderly will prefer to ride it out in their own homes as long as they can. Problem is that lots of elderly hate the thought of being dumped in a nursing home or don't have the money for more personal care. Sometimes there is no other option.

No, not yet, not permanently. She once broke her hip and had to stay with my brother for a few weeks and no one was excited about that. She was back home as soon as a ramp was installed at her house and a few adjustments were made in the bath, etc.
Mom said she didn't want to go to a nursing home. She's over a hundred now and still lives in her own home but my brother and we take turns watching over her. He lives in the same town and I am 250 miles away but we are both retired so we have adjusted our lives to make sure she's taken care of. We buy her groceries, take turns taking her to the beautician, and trips to the doctor. She still bakes a little and has 3 or 4 neighbors who will either call her or drop by for a visit.
We push her to continue to go to church and attend Council On Aging events. We reason that when she stops doing that, it will quickly be the last.
I don't know exactly what the future holds for her or us but I am confident she will be taken care of and if we have to make that change we hope she's not cognizant enough to know where she is. Ignorance is bliss.

I won’t consider it. I don’t mean to lack empathy, but I have two young kids and my own life. I don’t live in a big house with spare room to host and care for an elderly person. I also, most importantly, don’t desire to have an elderly, needy person in my house all the time.
How can he work and give her full time care?

We moved my MIL in almost exactly a year ago. Memories issues and very slow getting around. Turned the largest spare bedroom into her room with bed, recliner that can raise her up, tv etc.
Youngest still in college so that empty nest didn't last long
You have to get the routine down; my wife is able to take her to work one day a week and we work half days 2 other. The other 2 days we have a friend come in for couple hours to fix her lunch and hang out for little while. Night and morning routines are down and no surprises there.
Have your ducks in a row as far their medical. A UTI will show up out of no where and you'll need to know what to do.
Plan ahead for family or others to come in periodically to give ya'll time to go out, take a long weekend etc. We're lucky my wife as 3 other sisters that will fly in to let us take a vacation or weekend get away. Without that it would be real hard.

I don't know any companies in that area that have sitters if you need to hire anyone.

Grab bars all over the bathroom.
Chair height commode.

Sitters often work for a company. They are not too dependable, so you will go thru quite a few. You’ll likely not be taking extended trips without being called several times per day. No access to any kind of valuables (money, jewelry, silverware) when a sitter is in the house.
You are very lucky to have the studio apartment.
You need to be sure there is a hand shower (on a hose).
Be sure there is place can get warm enough…elderly get cold very quickly
Seek help with batihing from home health sooner rather than later..
