I’ll say what I said in my thread. There are so many schticks out there it is totally bizarre. Everyone has some sort of gimmick.

Because in today's world, social media is king and so everything has to be about "content" and "influencing." Like it's legit careers for people, and there is lots of money to be made. Which of course means that more and more people will do it, which means more and more trying to be unique/original, which leads to more bullshite and lies, and nothing is organic and "real" anymore.

It's a sad cycle, but it's where we are (or at least a large portion of the population is) these days. Almost every single video I see these days is either very obviously fake/staged, or has the feel to it where it seems like it's fake. And odds are, it is...but as long as it's generating clicks, then that's the endgame.

The problem with the social influencer accounts is that there’s usually one area of interest that catapults them to popularity, then they have no choice but to stick with that or risk losing interest. So if fitness or sobriety posts get you followed, that’s all you are from there on out.

yeah you right. lots of people think they need a "brand"

Then they go on all these low and mid level podcasts that everyone has decided to start to attempt to further advance their “brand” all while not actually contributing to society just trying to make the #content

All for attention

ETA: they may have drank a lot more than you realized. I agree with you though, it can be exhausting listening to it.

I’d rather they just STFU and let me do me. If they don’t like me, that’s cool. If they do, buy me a drink.

wouldn't think much of it but it feels extremely inauthentic and trendy.

Pretty much.

The "Sober Bars" that have popped up in bigger cities across the country is one of the biggest "separating fools from their money" schemes I've ever seen. Charging a cover to let people into your "bar" to drink sodas and $20 juice cocktails. And they're all filled with 20-somethings that were pounding Truly's and smoking blunts at a rap concert the weekend before who just want to be in on the trend and post about it on social media for the likes.

It's the ice bath/cold plunge and sobriety combo on the men's side.

Per my feed each morning, there is 0% chance you can be successful without doing those 2 things.

The high-priced mocktail bars are pretty weird, but people can spend money how they want.

I'll stick with the club soda and lime and spend my savings on food.

No, because I don't follow any "influencers".

I took a year off of alcohol in 2022. I just needed to so I could reset. That being said, I told nobody. Not my family or friends, I just did it, and nobody said a word.
I think with covid stress, and working from home, a lot of people slipped into a new comfort level with things that are more reserved for time away from responsibility. I think some realized that, and that's why a lot of people are getting back to better routines for themselves.

YouTube is trying to convince me that I need to go to San Diego and do this Navy Seal BUDs-lite course that some ex service guys cooked up to get men to be successful in all areas of their life.

All because I watched one video where this dude took his loser friend to it to try and get him more motivated.

Yep, that's my Go To when at a bar or drinking event. It's free, just tip $1 or $2 if she's hot.

Not drinking may not be as much fun, but it sure is cost effective.

My kids have gotten old enough where being drunk in front of them would be damaging. This combined with the fact that I'm a problem drinker, i.e. "Why have 2 drinks when you can have 8" meant it was time to get the bull by the horns.

I won't call myself a sober person because I'm not. But not drinking is a hell of an upgrade to regular life when you've suffered through hundreds of hangovers.

my friends are grandparents.
they reminisce about being able to touch their toes.
some can remember why they went in the room.

i get zero feed about sobriety. my friends were more of the Panama red crowd. they complain the market dropped out on their marijuana crop since its legal.

Yes I’ve noticed a ton of content on it recently. As well as a lot of people around me understanding the negatives of alcohol. A few friends of mine are now sober (or are improving their relationship w/ alcohol) and I’m very happy for them.

One man is responsible for this….Mr. Andrew Huberman
