That's why we were just saying NOLA overshadowed just how catastrophic both Katrina/Rita were combined. Rita is the forgotten storm that was also like a once in every 30 year storm. Katrina's NOLA damage also overshadowed areas around it that took just as bad damage too. Did anyone even remember how bad Biloxi/Gulfport was torn to pieces? Probably not but I sure as hell do because I use to visit it all the time. That place was completely destroyed like a nuclear bomb hit it. That's not hyperbole either. Recently visited it again and it's a totally different place now. Most stuff is just built inland. They use to have casinos out in the water now it's all different. I personally can't recognize the city today.

I think Hurricane Juan in the mid-80's came up and hit Louisiana, parked its arse over us, went back out into the Gulf, then nailed us again. That was the first hurricane I was old enough to remember.
BTW...what do they mean by a "deepening" hurricane?

Everyone that isn't a nimrod knows how bad the Miss gulf coast got it. And there are still as many if not more casinos along the coast now.
Let's quick fcking around about past storms and focus on this one please.

I was flying out of Lake Charles Saturday evening to Los Angeles. My connecting flight is in Dallas. Don't think I am going to risk getting stuck in Dallas Saturday night and for God knows how long. About to reschedule for Tuesday I guess.

Holly Beach after Rita:
And they've rebuilt a good bit of it. Hopefully they're spared this time around.

I've said on many occasions that if the 17th Street and London Avenue floodwalls hadn't been breached, we wouldn't be talking about New Orleans with Katrina...
It's like lower Plaquemines Parish after Camille...noone talks about how Port Sulphur to Venice got wiped out for the second time in 5 years...

I agree. We went through there exactly a month after Katrina, when they reopened the beach highway. I never thought I would see destruction like that with my own eyes. Just a couple of weeks ago I was cleaning out a cabinet and came across the pictures I took at that time. It was haunting.

I'm glad I visited Padre Island for the first time ever in July because it is going to have a lot of damage to it soon.

This is the GFS ensemble members from the 12z run:
Most of them take it offshore quite a bit before landfalling again in LA. The GFS itself is the black line, IIRC.

You guys are so funny. East side of Katrina slammed into LA, MS, AL and FL.

very miniscule and expected when being a near direct hit by a major Cat 4 system. The Katrina devastation was caused by the breaches and fixing breaches which took weeks and weeks.
