You should invest in Plylox clips in the future. Install takes minutes and is painless once you have your plywood measured, sized, and cut.

Ply lox won't work for me. Flush mounted windows on a stucco house. Guess I'll be busting my arse the next 10 hours or so.

Harvey's outflow is pretty impressive in all directions. That is usually conducive for development, unfortunately.

What's the story with the front hanging across TX, LA, etc.?
Is that what caused the South shift on landfall by pushing against it, or will it eventually pick up the storm and drag it NE like a lot of other storms in the past? Or both and it's all timing at this point?

That front isn't really steering it at the moment. It is being steered by high pressure to its east, hence the NW movement around the periphery of the high pressure.
High pressure building over Colorado is what is supposed to stop it in its tracks as it makes its way on shore, and the feature that pulls it out to the NE is the front in the Pacific Northwest at the moment.
For reference, I'd suggest watching the daily videos on Tropical Tidbits for a more in-depth discussion. He tries to dumb it down to some extent. LINK
