We all do. Listened to cajun navy channel all day today and still listening now. Wishing there was someway I could go. May be able to make it this weekend to help with clean up and recovery.

Calling bullshite
1. You can't see the concrete area of the damm at the outflow because of the amount of water.

What area around Lake Charles is this dire? Haven't seen any flooding around town significant enough for this.

After a certain height, water will just go around the edges of the reservoir. It will flood around the damn.
Same with Barker. The reason the flood map only goes to 104 feet is because anything higher than that will just go around the reservoir. The water won't back up higher than 104 feet when it can go elsewhere.

I live very close to the Barker reservoir and my office is near the Addicks. I am very familiar with the area and how the reservoirs are designed and what they are for.

Hate that for you and your family. Be cool. Put it behind you for now. Will be a good story for later but for now focus on being okay. I had a trip exactly like that evacing for Katrina 12 years ago almost exactly. You're stronger having been through it.

Ultimately was able to get to 45 North and get out of dodge. 4 fricking hours just to get out of the Houston area. People on the same route as quickly as an hour later would not have been able to pull this route off.
I can't even explain the "rats in a maze" type feeling, with feelings of despair and forcing myself to make optimistic thoughts just to make it through the drive.
Overall, 8 hours in the truck going 45 North to 7 West at Centerville over to 35 south down to Austin.
Very fortunate to get out. Completely mentally and emotionally drained. I can't even allow myself to think about the house I left behind. I hope all Houston folks fare well.
I hope you're posting this after enjoying the simple pleasures of a hot shower, clean sheets on a big bed and a hot meal.
