They knew this was going to be a major rain event as early as Wednesday. Instead of doing a pre-release of the water to drop the water level in the lake they decided to dump it all at once. That was roughly 500k gallons of water per second flowing from the dam by the way.

Releasing all that water and the cumulative rainfall caused the West Fork to crest much higher than it would have if a more pragmatic approach was taken with the release of the water.

Also, Ted Oberg on ABC 13 is doing a great job out there with evacuees. He's really good and seems genuine as can be.

I'm in Katy east of 99 and seeing minimal flooding. Nottingham Country.

I am in villages of bear creek also. The rain has picked up a little.

I think, and I might be wrong, but I think he said they were being evacuated to a nearby hotel.

The water has been up the curb and driveway since about 7pm it had receded only slightly since then.

For anyone that is from sienna plantation here...

Just spoke with a co-worker that stayed. He has a high water vehicle and was trying to get to a bed-ridden lady at the back of sienna in sawmill lakes. The police were able to get her but his observations...

South sienna area (area south of steep bank trace) main streets are flooding. He said some areas were just holding water, while others had water up to about half way up the "neutral grounds" on the sides of the streets.

North sienna (north of steep bank trace) is only flooded at the entrance of the nighborhood and sienna parkway and sienna springs. He said generally speaking the rest of the area looks ok.

The big canals running throughout the nighborhood are threatening to top the banks though. If that happens, people bordering the canals could possibly flood.

For now my house, near the sienna springs/sienna ranch intersection is ok (no street level flooding)

The Brazos isn't due to crest until about Wednesday. I would bank on it creating then either with all the rain that's continuing to pour.

I'm looking at not going back till Friday.
