Of course. I think the take off of work/school, ride it out, and have supplies for 24-48 hours of power outages is the reasonable thing, and expected from any municipality in that situation.

I got Nearly 11 inches north of Lake Charles, and 9 inches in Kenner.

Read that CC gets about 31 inches per year. Houston gets about 50.

I hope Kenner doesn't get 9 inches. My dad will have a shite fit. Thank God he cut his grass before all this.

The way I see it, everyone knows their area. If your flood maps say you can handle the rain you're supposed to get the fine, just plan to possibly be without power/water for a week or two.

How much is lake Charles supposed to get just today and tomorrow?

Can anyone in Houston give me some intel?
I have some family members headed to the medical center area on Monday. They are staying near the hospitals but right on Brays Bayou. How does that area handle rain?
I wouldn't come to the TMC, honestly. I'm here. I run a medical office here. And I am essentially planning for no access into the facilities on Monday and Tuesday. We're here today. I'm getting my people home ASAP. And I don't expect to come back until late afternoon on Wednesday. Later if we're unlucky.
I'm following TMC, St. Lukes, and Methodist administration over the weekend, and will follow their direction for the most part. I'll keep that updated here if I can.

The Houston paper said Alvin, TX got 43 inches in a single day in 1979 due to Tropical Storm Claudette.

I live on the northside of Houston. I am concerned about becoming land locked for a couple of days because of localized flooding. I'm not necessarily concerned or fearful my home will become flooded. Just trapped for a couple of days.

Ha. I can't leave the medical center until tomorrow (new baby). We might be prolonging our stay.....

That is a fricking incredible, unimaginable amount of rain.

And guys, I cam pretty much promise you there will be no general evacuation order for the city of Houston as a whole. There are bad parts around here that will likely hold water until next weekend. Nice areas even. Lots of ruined lives and property. But there is so much new development and accommodation for drainage since Allison/Ike that the fear of traffic gridlock far outweighs the fear of a city wide rain disaster.
Judge Emmett would have already been sounding that alarm if he was going to do it. Considering how much rain we're about to start getting, and what that would do to any large evacuation order.

Auto - med center and areas west of it will have substantial street flooding, but the hospitals themselves should be more than okay.

clown, take a look at click2houston.com for weather forecast potential for river, creek and bayou flooding...

Anyone know the historical rainfall totals in Houston?
I am not exactly sure of the historical rainfall totals for an individual day, but in 2001 Tropical Storm Allison dumped 38.6" of rain in Houston over six days.
Allison was the only Tropical Storm to ever get its name retired until Erika in 2015.

Things getting wet and wild in downtown Houston already

I am curious when my gf will be able to land back in Houston. Maybe Tuesday night? Definitely Wednesday I think.
How long were the power outages during Ike in the Loop? I've stocked up for 3-4 days at least but am hoping it won't be that long.

Forgive my ignorance, but who is this guy?
There's a page on Facebook called "Louisiana Hurricane Center" I've seen people sharing. Go to look at it and it's just some guy with a blog that reposts NWS stuff with his commentary. I can't see where he has any meteorological expertise but he's really good at sounding smart while saying "oh shite were all gonna die."
I've been around this board for a few years now and I've been through several of these events, and our resident TD weather experts are very measured in their commentary. I don't know if they have actual knowledge or just stayed in a Holiday Inn Express, but they keep things in perspective and provide good solid info that usually jives with what happens. Social media can be such a blessing and curse at the same time.
