Rice and SMU are not small schools, but Trinity > Southwestern.

I was accepted at all 3. Early admission to W&L. Then my college fund got wiped out and I ended up where I could go on full scholarship.

LSU Vet school is very hard to get in. My daughter had to wait a year to get in even with a 4.0. She even had 6 years experience working for vets. At the time, they only would take 80 people per year to get in.

Book smart vs common sense according to macho man.

Alabama has really stepped their game up academically. They're the model for how premier football can help your academics through exposure. BUT having said that. They're almost 60% out of state now. Something that was wonderful during my time at LSU was that it was about 80% in state kids and when I was there (I'm not from LA) I got a very legitimate cultural experience because the majority of my friends were from Louisiana. So I was able to travel to many LA towns with them and obviously learn about them through them and all of Louisianas great traditions like mardi gras, cooking, etc... That type of culture does not exist at Alabama because it's essentially the demographics of a private school. Same thing with all the Tulane grads I meet now in New Orleans. They couldn't even tell you where Covington is. They never leave the city and never got the exposure to the rest of the state that I got at LSU. I would love LSU to mimic Bama in rising academically but it would be nice to be able to do it while remaining heavily filled with in state kids. It really makes the experience incredible.
