One day she brought a king cake to class and told us we could have a piece once we finished our quiz. Our quiz was 5 questions. Took 7 handwritten pages front to back. No one finished in time to eat the cake.

I would not say the topics were too hard... I had terrible teachers.
One reason I became and educator was because of all the horrible teachers I had growing up.
I think in grade school all the way to high school had maybe 3 or 4 good teachers.
I made good and damn sure that I was a good teacher and learned to teach every concept by at least 2 or 3 different methods so I could reach every kid.
I hated math. I used to tell my students math was my favorite subject so that they would learn to love it.
In high school I hated algebra.
In college I learned to like math because I had a great professor who really inspired me.

The one taught by Miss San Miguel. It could have been remedial first grade math and it would have still been my hardest 50 minutes of the day.

It was the combination of when I took AP Physics and AP Calculus I took in the same semester during Junior year.
I literally wanted to drop out, because of how hard those classes were. By God's grace I passed both classes just barely with like a 70. But I think that's because my teachers felt sorry for me. Because I was failing the mess out of those tests. With tutoring, I eventually began to get the hang of Physics. I worked my arse off everyday. I earned that passing grade. Calculus on the other hand, frick NO. No matter how much tutoring I did, it never clicked. I never passed a single test.
Like how is it even possible to get an 8 on a test. I remember I studied an entire weekend in my bedroom with no distractions for the final exam. I did all that work just to make a 48 on the final. I changed majors in college just so I would not have to take Calculus. I am so thankful that I'm able to live a regular life without ever needing to know the concepts of Calculus. That class still gives me nightmares lol.

it wasn't it's own course but spelling was always difficult for me because i am a math person. luckily, these days everything has spell check on it and even if i cant get it close enough that the device can spell it out correctly for me, i can talk to text.

Chemistry or Calculus. Just did not register with me at all.
I'm excellent at English, Literature, History, Social Studies etc

I really struggled through Biology. Got a 30 in science on ACT and I got a degree in biology. Problem wasn't me. Problem was Mrs. Gerace at Baton Rouge High.

Anatomy, sophomore year. Not sure how I even got into the class given my age. I was by far the youngest, most were seniors. Was similar to a stats or physics class were everyone “failed” but curved to a C or B-
I remember having a full deck of the 3x5 flash cards trying to memorize the skeleton and then getting to the test and zero skeleton questions.

Geometry. I was part of the "lucky" class that piloted a new Geometry book that was text based. I was already terrible at math, but talk about totally lost that year. Totally wasted year of math.

At one point I had a C in it, yet had As in everything else including calculus and physics.

Algebra. We had a teacher who was leaving and she was determined to go out with a bang. We had 6 pages of notes the first day and she didn’t write anything on the board.
Class started with 32, ended with 12, first 2 to drop it were the valedictorian and salutatorian, neither wanted to risk their grades and both were gone by day 3. One guy annoyed her, but stuck it out just because he both knew he got under her skin and liked it. She put his desk by itself and walked around it lecturing.
We finished course work before Christmas and ended up spending the last half of the year on Calculus, a course we didn't even have in school. Only C I ever got in high school was the first 6 weeks, nobody got better than a B.
