Hard Skills Vs Soft Skills, Which are more important for career success?

I've had this conversation with a few people recently about what is more important for overall career success.
I tend to side on soft skills leading to more utility down the road, especially as you get out of more BAU activities and have to deal with more organzizing moving parts of large processes.

Depends on the industry.

It completely depends on the career in question.

Soft Skills if you're patient

In general, soft skills because 90% of life is bullshitting, communicating and convincing.
If you want to be a neurosurgeon, hard skills have more weight.

In a functional role (developer, plumber, etc) it's hard skills.
In a management or ownership position it's soft skills.

It's all a bunch of bullshite, but I had to waste a ton of time on it in college and when "training."

You need both. Which is more important depends on what you do. Do you sell the technical widget? Soft. Do you design the technical widget? Hard.

This was also a concern of mine until Viagra came along.

It amazes me that it took 9 replies to finally get to the obvious sex/dick joke. OT was actually trying to be helpful today.

I would say software developers need more soft skills lol. I am working very closely with a software development team right now and I'll just say it's been difficult
