Handing out Business Cards in 2018

Had these dudes come in from California to meet with our R&D group to discuss a project. I'd been emailing with one of them for a while to arrange this meeting, and he brought his squad, 6 in total. They dressed slick, they seemed hip. They sit down, we exchange pleasantries, and then they start passing out cards like it's poker night. Excuse me, what the frick do you want me to do with this stack of cards? I don't have a rubber band in my pocket. And I tried to plug my iPhone cord into the cards to sync my contacts but I'm not having any luck.
Hey bruh, we've been emailing each other. Why are you handing me a business card? And some of your boys were copied on those emails as well. How's about you send me their virtual, Outlook contact info via the interwebs? You could also share those contacts via text. If you're physically close enough to hand me a business card then you're close enough to tell me what your number is so I can enter it into my electronic rolodex.
Handing me a business card in 2018 is no different than handing me a dirty napkin. I didn't need this dirty napkin. I don't want it. And now I have to find a trashcan. And don't look at me like I did something wrong because I didn't offer you a dirty napkin.
Be alive in 2018
Be handing out business cards in a meeting
Be thinking that I'm not going to throw them in the trash
Be this guy every time you meet someone in a business setting

The used car business sounds rough

I use an app called CamCard and take a picture of it and give it back to them. It uses ocr and saves it into my contacts

Hmmm. I'm not sure about this one. Sure, it's odd if you've been working with them for a while, but I think exchanging cards is still a pretty well-established practice. Are you never randomly at a networking event, etc.? It would seem awkward to pull out my phone and start typing in contact details for every person that I met.

Perhaps they are accustomed to doing business internationally? The exchange of business cards is considered absolutely critical to establishing a business relationship in Japan, for example.

in DC it's how you quickly determine whether or not you you're wasting your time by talking to someone.

This has an act 1 of American Psycho feeling to it.

There are apps out there that you can use to scan business card info into your contacts dude.

Of all the things to melt about, you chose this.

Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God... it even has a watermark!

Wheneve someone gives me a business cad that I don't want/don't intend on contacting I drop it in one of those "win a fee lunch" bowls at a restaurant

I have a stack of my cards on my desk. Older guys like to exchange business cards. I have one client that stops by for a visit about once every month (or more) and he takes a card every damn time. He's kind of a pain in the arse. One day he's gonna catch me in a mood and I'm gonna ask him to return the stack of mine he obviously has so that I can recycle.

I usually exchange them.
I have a qr code I can share for the kids too.

Business cards still have a place. This, however, is not one of them.

Cards are helpful for matching names with faces at a first-time meeting. Place them in order corresponding to the seating arrangement.

I enjoy the fact that business cards are still a thing in this day and age. My only issue with it is when someone I've met with numerous times gives me a new one every time we meet. I only need your card once.
