I have a stack of my cards on my desk. Older guys like to exchange business cards. I have one client that stops by for a visit about once every month (or more) and he takes a card every damn time. He's kind of a pain in the arse. One day he's gonna catch me in a mood and I'm gonna ask him to return the stack of mine he obviously has so that I can recycle.
You're probably going to win a free lunch sooner than later...you should thank him.

I'm not going to keep referring to the card during our meetings
it's for later, if you need to remember a name/company or to get the contact info--not right then during a meeting.

Business cards irrationally annoy me. Mostly because I’ve worked with people who insist on a reprint when their BA is left off of the end of their name, or something equally unimportant. It’s caused me to categorically hate them.

I tried re-reading this but it never gets better.

They're particularly helpful during meet/greet type of events.
I go to a lot of business events, parties, dinners etc, I exchange business cards all the time.
It’s very helpful to recall who you met and who they work for as well how to get in touch with them.
I’ve gone through my pockets some mornings and not even remember I met half the people that I had cards for

If it is a meeting with several people I have never met, I sometimes lay out their cards in the same layout as they are sitting. That way if I forget their name I can refer to their card. I overlap the cards so that only their names are visible.
It also helps me remember their names by repeatedly matching their name to their face. But I am old so there is that.

I get asked for mine all the time.
From my end, I don't always have time or desire to punch in your contact info to my phone right at that time. Easy just to hand the card and get on with the meeting. Like others have said, you can just scan them into a database if needed. Until people get barcodes tattooed on their face or something that you can just quickly scan, it's the fastest way to just get on with what you have to do.
An app that you can just touch phones or something would be great, but they don't exist and I doubt my company would let us have something that so easily trades info from a secure source like my company phone.

You know there is apps that you can take a picture of the business card and it will import it to all your contacts in less than 30 seconds. So you should probably get with the times and download one of the 50 apps they make for that.

You try really hard to be hip and cool and edgy, but this is just a stupid take. Sometime formalities show your professionalism and respect as well as status.
You know who sounds like the kind of guy who would swear off business cards? A guy who drives a minivan

Sucks that you don't know how to use a cell phone then. Your business must not be that important.

Business cards should only come with gifts from clients and prospective clients

I still think they are important and I ask for/give them to vendors all the time. I'm not going to interrupt an initial meeting by inputting a person's information into my phone or taking a picture of their business card. That's what the business card is for, so that I can do all of that after I get done with the meeting.

Absolutely
I never pass out business cards unasked. However, I went through over 500 of them in two months a couple of years ago.
If your clients ask for business cards, you better have business cards.

I get the card scanner thing but I don't want to offend people because I don't want them in my contacts. It's easier to take their card then throw it in the trash when they leave.

I staple them to the back of the card I have on file for them in my rolodex.
