I've lived in Mandeville for 2 years and I don't think I'm better than anyone else lol. It's not required to live here, but it seems like a lot of people meet that requirement though.

Having grown up in Independence during high school, most if not everyone I grew up with pretty much moved to Hammond or Ponchatoula. I'd say calling it South Independence is more accurate.

Im from Hammond and will only on occasion say "the Northshore area", usually only when describing to someone who only knows New Orleans and Baton Rouge. However I think Hammond to Slidell can be justified as the NorthShore because the stretch of area is north of the lake(maybe not all directly) and North of New Orleans so it distinguishes it.

Who gives a frick? I'd much rather take 55 to 12 to get to New Orleans, anyway. Who wants to have to deal with that frick up of a causeway?

If I say I live on the northshore, people assume: Mandeville, Madisonville, Covington, Abita
Anything else, Ponchatoula, Hammond, Slidell, needs clarification. Maybe we can start calling those areas the westshore and eastshore, so they can have a shore that doesnt need clarification?

I don't know if it is a shoreline per se. There are a few lakes in the area. Interesting to note is that you can't get to Covington without crossing a bridge. That is a lot of river frontage but I wouldn't consider it a shoreline. Maybe it's the Isle of Covington. As for Hammond...sure, why not consider it part of the Northshore. To me, it's more of a cultural region than a geographic region anyway.

I live in Hammond and have never heard this sorcery from anyone around here. I've always referred to the "Northshore" as the Covington/Mandeville/Madisonville/Slidell area.
