Is it acceptable in the gym to leave a 45lb plate on each side of the barbell or is it inconsiderate or lazy? I've always been under the assumption that it's acceptable.

Re-rack.

ETA: What is your reasoning for it being acceptable?

And make that 45yr old woman after you do a minimum 135?

Re-rack.

Not to mention if they have to change heights.

Strip the bar and re-rack the weights - the ONLY exception is leg press machine (ain't nobody got time for that - leave at least 4 45s - probably more - some cats LP 1000+).

Life etiquette, be responsible and pick up after yourself. Leave any situation in as good or better shape than when you arrived.

Stop being a lazy frick and rerack.
Nothing pisses me off more than seeing a new guy or small girl struggling to get the plates off the bench because some arse was too lazy to rerack his weights. I mean, did these people have a-hole parents who never taught them to put up their shite?

Unless someone is standing there waiting, and they say, "Yeah man, just leave those plates on..." you should re rack all of your weights.

this. gotta be respectful of the ladies. If you are a guy and you can't pull one 45 off, you probably don't need to be using that equipment.

I probably picked up this habit in 9th grade football team, it was all dudes lifting, not a female in sight.

Good question. Depends on the station. Those hammer strength bench/incline machines I think would be acceptable. Never see a woman use them at my gym(s) and there's always a 45lb on each side.
a squat rack or bench it's unacceptable b/c women tend to use them and prob don't start at 135.

I bet you are the a-hole who you can see clearly making fun of the new guys at the gym instead of attemting to be nice and offering them a pointer or two.

I will always take off whatever I put on but I'm also not reracking someone else's plates.

I start out with an empty bar as my first warm-up and to get my mind right. Re-rack your weights, tough guy.

If its a pussy gym, re-rack. If its a man's gym, leave 225 on the bar.

You should remove all plates unless the next in line asks that you leave them.
