I can only think of one close friend relationship that sounds similar; wife cheated and left husband, both later agreed both had let it go to shite, she and the new guy married within the year and still together now like 14 years I think.
Husband is still happily single, I think a good part by choice.

That receding hairline hits hard, don’t it?

One of my wife’s (no pics) lifelong friends just found out her husband was having an affair. He then flat out told his wife he didn't love her anymore and wanted a divorce. They have a 4 year old and a one year old. We just had dinner with them a couple weeks prior and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I think he got the 7 year itch and scratched too hard.

Worked at a golf club when a couple switched partners and never looked back. Worked as a caddie for both husband and wife (each couple), they didnt care, and it seemed to work for both.
Won,caddie of the year and worked at the same club for 12 years.

Male sexual market value over age 30 doesn’t depend on male looks. It depends on male status. For a woman, appearance is EVERYTHING at the peak of her SMV. Blame God, Darwin, whoever you like.

Let’s be fair though, men who look good tend to get status. How many ugly and short billionaires and politicians do you see?

I’ve been around long enough to have seen it all. I know guys that were married with children leave their wives and marry their mistress and lived happily ever after. I’ve also seen it go the other way and that mistress they married ended up in epic failure. I’d have to think there are substantial case studies done on this subject. The divorce rate runs about 50% in this country which is about where I’ve observed the success rate on guys I’ve known that left their wives for their mistress. I sure wouldn’t want my kids thinking dad cheated on mom and married his side piece. If it’s not possible to fix the marriage then divorce the wife first so a mistress is not in the whole messy equation.

8 years ago I left a 24 year marriage which involved another woman. I had longstanding problem with my ex's drinking, lying, etc.
I'm still with the lady I began seeing while still married. Things are good.

Not as high as his first marriage.

However, that comment wasn’t snide. Just because you don’t want to hear it doesn’t make it any less true.

It was judgmental and usurped that which has been deemed to belong to Christ alone - final judgment of a soul.

Just a few thoughts.
1) I agree with those who have used the phrase “If they will cheat with you they will cheat on you.” It would be hard to gain trust going forward in that situation.
2) I also agree with what someone said about affairs that start due to social or professional proximity are more likely to last than if both people were actively looking to cheat. If you’re working closely with some hot colleague, one thing leads to another, and you both end up ditching your spouses, I would say that situation (as bad as it may be) is more likely to stick.
3) I’m going to add this: Never cheat with someone who has less to lose than you do if the relationship is exposed. If you’re married with two kids and have good standing in the community and you start screwing some hot, slutty 20 year old waiting tables at Denny’s and you piss her off, she will burn you to the ground. But if she’s a youth director at the church and/or is married too, she’s a lot more likely to keep her mouth shut if things end.
