BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Ground will be broken Monday, July 13, on the Perkins Road Overpass project, which was originally announced in 2023.

Plans call for a multi-use trail, new signs, parking, lighting, and additional improvements. The goal is to improve safety, access, and neighborhood connectivity in the area.
All white/Asian people in the rendering. African artwork on the columns.

The $2.5 million renovation project is meant to provide a safer and quicker route for people walking to businesses in the Perkins Overpass area. Construction start dates for a railroad crossing and utilities had previously delayed the project.
quote:
Jordan Piazza, owner of The Colonel’s Club, said the delay has been frustrating.
“They were supposed to start this summer,” Piazza said. “We were promised, and nothing has been done.”
Piazza said he is concerned construction could fall during the busiest part of the year.
“If they start that during the middle of football season, it’s going to be disastrous for all of us,” Piazza said. “Fans are in town; that’s the time for the city to make its most revenue, right, as well as the businesses.”
Raiford said completion before football season is not expected.
“I don’t see this work being completed by football season or before football season,” Raiford said. “It’s just not going to be possible.”

I like how even in the renderings the water is doo-doo brown

2.5M down the drain.
And Fred Raiford is useless.

That looks like a real picture of Buffalo Bayou in Houston.
Carbo does solid design work. Too bad EBR won't maintain it.

Are the people who are trying to take over City Patk the same people who pushed this deal through?

Wait a minute, they're spending $2.5 million to beautify an area that's about to be a total mess because of the I-10 widening project? Makes total sense.

This (or something very similar) has been a project for landscape architecture students at LSU for many, many years. I'm glad this is finally coming to fruition. I would have liked to have seen them go with a more innovative LA firm though.

The times I've met him Baton Rouge Transportation and Drainage Director Fred Raiford always been very nice, but it is odd that there never been a mixup at the top in Baton Rouge. Some fresh ideas could help.
More importantly --- why the hell are those two vital jobs that Baton Rouge struggles combined under one job?!
Drainage director should be pushing for permeable parking lots on new constructions or watching the water retention/diversion for Burbank closely. (There's no doubt that's going to cause flooding when the build those houses).
Transportation needs figure out why everyone has to sit at a red light when there's no one coming or waiting on the cross street. Didn't we pay a ton for smart lights? Why does Longhorn need a full 2 minutes on Stanford on the weekend?
He seemingly been in charge for as long as I've been in Baton Rouge. Again, seems like a pretty good guy but everything could benefit from some new ideas.

Yes, it is my understanding that Jenny Peters is behind or supports both.
I don't know why she hates Baton Rouge golf course as much as she does (other than self serving interests of possibly using it for her running club). It's so aggravating when she could have about 200 other projects to work on (since she's now in some official BREC role)... but she keeps trying to kill the well loved golf course to add more pavement and buildings on the already packed park.

Thanks!
I knew something was going on with the golf course.
I started a thread asking about this last week.
