“Jenni Peters, who lives on the course, says she thinks the space would be better as a park, with amenities like an amphitheater, kayak rental, and arboretum. She also wants to make the golf course a par 3 “pitch and putt” where part of the existing course can still be preserved to the northeast corner.

“You take a look on a sunny warm day and think if this was a park, all the people that would have the opportunity to utilize it, and right now there’s nobody really playing golf,” Peters says. “The par 3 concept is lit and very appealing to young people, so I think we could still preserve an aspect of the historic golf course.” LINK

I'm not even sure what she means "is lit"... God forbid this city have one last uninterrupted green space left -- a well used golf course in the heart of the city. Her idea sounds absolutely AWFUL and ruins the playability of the course, which will reduce the usage until she can put up her stupid coffee shop idea.

Why not stack some of that lake mud up and put her coffee shop in front of the Lod Cook? Lod already has the food services capacities to run a little water front cafe.

Carbo does solid design work. Too bad EBR won't maintain it.

This. Looks good in renderings…but give it a year and it’ll be pretty dumpy

BREC invites residents to attend a community feedback meeting for the City-Brooks Community Park Master Plan on July 14 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at BREC’s Independence Theater (7800 Independence Blvd.). This meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to share comments, ask questions, and offer feedback on the future vision of one of Baton Rouge’s most iconic parks. Community input will help guide final decisions as the planning process continues.

Webb charges kids under 18 $5 to play. For those kids whose parents are not members of a golf course, it keeps them active and out of trouble. It would suck if they took this option away.

Is this where the light rail will pick up/drop-off to and from New Orleans?
Nope. The proposed station locations are north of Perkins between Essen and Bluebonnet (medical offices area) and near North Blvd between 14th and 15th (I think that's the streets).

This Overpass project is kind of halfway between that second station and LSU. I forget the exact details from a thread a year or two ago, but it makes it around a 10-12 minute bike ride and a 45ish minute walk. Something like that.

Thanks! I'll try to make it out there but after seeing that "survey" it's pretty clear they don't give a shite what the average person thinks.

For those of you that don't know, the survey said was:
5 pages of all this cool stuff you could have.. then on page 6 it was like would you want that or keep the golf course. Beyond designations and trashy behavior from BREC to publish hat.

Last I saw their shitty "master plan" was like $150M to make the area and course worse.

Depends on the person, but more than you think. Assuming it's not raining, I'm comfortable sitting outside for meals, without fans or heaters, a solid 8 months out of the year. And that's for an hour, hour and a half long meal. If I'm in the sun during winter or the shade during summer, I would say 10ish months for a quick 15-30 minute "get some fresh air" break.

Phew, you're stronger than me. I sat outside at Duvic's for maybe 15 minutes yesterday and basically died. And it wasn't even sunny.

Duvic's isn't my normal stomping ground; what does their outside space look like? During the summer, solar gain becomes a massive consideration. So somewhere like BLDG5 with wood decking and tree canopy will be significantly cooler than somewhere like Beausolei with concrete and umbrellas.

Yeah... that's going to be hot as shite, "shade" or not

ETA: As many times as I've driven by Duvic's, I never noticed that was actually seating. When she said it, I assumed there was patio space on the other side or something

You're right. The scum of the earth and crackheads that live off Valley St. would never walk the couple hundred yards down the RR tracks over there to that area to murder you for your cellphone or wallet at 1:00 a.m. Carry on.

Are they currently making that walk? There's nothing stopping them currently.

Raiford said completion before football season is not expected. “I don’t see this work being completed by football season or before football season,” Raiford said. “It’s just not going to be possible.”

On second thought, this is a terrible idea. I do not recommend any female to walk this area. This has DANGER all over it.

.

You’ve pretty much nailed it here.

The group that wants to get this done are adjusting and molding the narrative trying to get more support to help them force it on us.. They’ve got RedEye posting articles promoting it.

My simple opinion is I like the course and park. Make it better or leave it alone and build whatever around it. I’m not some crazed lunatic racist snob stop acting like I am.

They can do a lot in the lakes area without pissing everyone off but it’s my opinion that the designers have been handed the framework of a plan and are moving forward with it, frick what people actually like or want.

This is another waste of good taxpayer money.

Have you ever stood under I-10 for any length of time. It is loud as hell and

is not a pleasant place to be as shown in those artistic renderings.

Brec has some basketball goals under I-110 near the airport and no one

uses them. I did a drainage survey through there 2 years ago and was there for a month and never saw a person(s) use those goals.

I keep looking at the plans to figure out how the path will cross the railroad tracks, but it’s not clear. Looks interesting tho. I would love to have a bike path in that spot instead of having to loop over by City Park.
