You don't even have to have the same number as wife.

My brother is an a-hole, so he had his best man, his two brothers and our dad.

Brother and I had to loop back around to walk the rest of the bridesmaids.

That's fricked up. I walked in my BIL's wedding, and will be a groomsman in my SIL's wedding. That would be a very odd situation in my family.

Yeah, I was pissed about it. They eventually came to me and said that they wanted me to be an usher since I couldn't be a groomsman. I told her no. My reasoning was that if I wasn't good enough to be standing up there with my only sister on her wedding day that I sure as hell wasn't standing in the back of the church alone where I couldn't see anything. I would have at least liked to have sat with my family. Well this pissed her off and I was called a bunch of ugly names and made out to be the bad guy. Eventually I swallowed my pride, realizing that this was their day and not mine, and I assumed the role of an usher.

That's pretty messed up to offer the usher to you after it was known you wouldn't be in the wedding.

I was an usher at my little sister's wedding, and didn't mind a bit. My brother in law has 2 brothers, his dad was his best man, and two of his good friends from way back. My sister had my other sister, my wife, and her other sister in law. So it was already uneven and more groomsmen than bridesmaids. My other brother in law was an usher as well. Just seems strange these days to try and have an even number on both sides. Yeah, get it close or even if you can, but don't make one party exclude 1 or 2 just to get it even.

if the groom had close friends that he wanted in the wedding, all your sister had to do was add a bridesmaid then he could have added you. I'm sure she could've added one more bridesmaid if she really wanted to. It actually sounds like they just didnt want you standing up there with them during the wedding.

My thoughts exactly

That's how I took it. Not necessarily her, but him. You wouldn't have been a little offended?

I think what made it worse is what led up to this. I was married 3 years prior to my sister's wedding. My wife and I had a disagreement over who should be her maid of honor. She wanted some chick that she met at school and only knew for a short while. I thought my sister, who introduced me to my wife, should be maid of honor. So I stood up for my sister and eventually my wife saw it my way and my sister was maid of honor. I guess I assumed that my sister would do the same for me but she didn't.

ETA: If that makes me sound like a bitch, then so be it. I was hurt in a way. You're not human if you don't have feelings.

I went to a wedding last fall that had ten groomsmen in addition to the best man/matron of honor

It was crazy. I think four is a good number.

I was pretty butthurt when my only sibling, my sister, didn't ask me to be a groomsmen in her wedding. Her reasoning was that it was her fiance's decision to pick his own groomsmen and that she didn't have any say so. None of my family was represented as a groomsmen but 1/2 of her bridesmaids were from his side

I take it you're too good to be a Bridesman?

I don't like being the center of attention so since I was a kid I've always dreaded my wedding day. Thank God my best friend got married at a courthouse so I didn't have to give a best man speech at a reception, I'd probably vomit.

Whenever I do get married, I'm hoping there's only like 3 groomsmen/bridesmaids and an invite list of less than 40 people.

200 Person Wedding

6 Groomsman
4 Ushers for me

I didn't have 3 people in my wedding whose weeding I was in, and they were ok with it. We are adults.

I had 5 groomsmen, which are the people I consider my closest friends. No way I would have had more than 5. Can't get everybody into one picture unless the photographer is a mile away.

What if you had 6 really close friends? Would you stick to 5 to appease the neckbeards on tigerdroppings?

To the OP, ask as many as you want. There is no arbitrary number

What if you have 20 close friends and both bride and groom have 3+ siblings? Wedding party should not be a clown car.

What self respecting man gets "butthurt" about being left out of a wedding party?

What is the point of bridesmaids and groomsmen anyway?
